WHERE DOES TV SIGNAGE COME FROM?

Back in the ‘70s many large corporations began to use “Corporate TV” to help inform, motivate and entertain staff.  These efforts were usually supported through the use of private cable and satellite TV broadcasting systems.  Because of the complexity and costs involved, Corporate TV was mainly used by the biggest and richest multinational companies.  This made sense due to the vast distances between offices and the need to foster and preserve a global corporate culture across every site.

These systems needed special AV expertise and expensive technical equipment at each end of the broadcast.  The 80’s saw the introduction of more advanced AV equipment and video cassette recorders/players (VCR).  This helped democratize Corporate TV bringing this communication medium to more companies than ever before.  All you needed was a video camera at one end and a video player at the other.  Video cassettes would then be shipped across the country and viewers could play the content when it was convenient, rather than having to adhere to a strict viewing schedule.

Video cassettes were eventually replaced by Video CD's and then by DVDs cutting production, replication and shipping costs even further.

By the late 90’s, the Internet had really taken off and companies were benefiting from ever faster bandwidth so the transmission of video content started making sense once again.  The last piece of the puzzle came into place when new video codecs and efficient streaming servers became available.  Now we could encode high-quality video content and make it available across the globe in a few seconds.

Today, enterprises of all sizes leverage TV signage software to play corporate content anywhere at a very low cost.  TV Signage is quickly becoming a must for any company, regardless of their industry or application.  It is the ideal complement to the corporate extra net and other modern communication tools.

TV Signage represents the convergence of digital signage with Corporate TV.  Video, text, real-time data and corporate “dashboards” can be organized into flexible playlists which are scheduled and broadcast over any distance via the Internet.  Content can be programmed by screen location so only relevant information is shown at any given time.  Content can be re-used and modified as required making this a very cost-effective solution.

Companies who deploy TV Signage have better informed staff. This in turn leads to increased motivation, better performance and lower staff turnover.
