When Your Dog Encounters Acne
Your dear pooch might be susceptible to some disorders which may mar
the outer appearance of its body. Acne is one of the troubles that occur in
growing dogs, similar to what you would have encountered in your own teenage
period.
These are generally the mild skin symptoms which affect your pet’s body
in various ways, but get subsided soon as they progress in their life. And as
you become conscious of even a single mark or spot on your skin, dogs would
generally not have such a tendency. Though, they would always tend to use their
paws and teeth if a portion of their body tends to be itchy due to acne.
Acne Causes in Dogs:
Acne in the body of dogs could result mainly due to the following
causes:
·
Hormonal
Changes
·
Genetic
symptoms
·
Excessive
trauma
·
Allergic
reactions
·
Environmental
conditions
The acne in their body, if meant to occur, would always show its
symptoms at some part of its life, no matter how much you take care of their
well being with proper dog grooming
tips.
Certain breeds of fogs such as Doberman pinchers, Great Danes and
boxers etc. are more likely to encounter acne in some part of their life than
the other long-haired breeds.
Symptoms of Acne:
Acne in a dog’s body may result in symptoms such as:
·
Blackheads
·
Infections
·
Swellings
·
Red
bumps
·
Painful
lesions, which are sensitive to touch
·
Puss
filled in the lesions
·
Scars,
which originate from the already healed lesions
·
Constant
itching, which forces the pet to rub its face and body against some object
Treatments For Acne In Dogs:
As acne is not such a malignant trouble that it could worsen the
conditions of its body functioning, a bit of watchfulness would be enough to
get your dog healed out of their symptoms. Some of the treatment methods you
could use are as follows:
·
Bathing: You could get a medicated shampoo for your dog and bathe its body with
it, so that the bacterial infections and unwanted materials could be eliminated
from the skin. Be careful to get a dog-specific shampoo and the one which is
free of chemicals. You could even consult your vet for the same, as some
chemical-based shampoos could be highly irritating on your dog’s skin and
increase the already present infections.
·
Medications: Various externally applicable ointments and
lotions are available which could be used for effective results in acne. For
instance, you could use a solution of benzoyl peroxide to improve the
conditions. Various antibiotics, steroids and pills are also available which
could be supplied to your pet, but only upon the prior consultation with your
vet, when the matter turns worse.
Apart from finding various solutions, you should also trust the dog’s
natural healing capability as the acne would subside on their own in the due
course of their life. If they exist for long, you could always get an expert’s
assistance to find the appropriate solutions for them.
