Tasmania experiences four distinct seasons – summer, autumn, winter and spring. So, when do you think would be the best time to visit this place? Different seasons have different characteristics. Keeping those special characteristics in mind you need to set for the tour. For example, if you are fond of festivals and events, then summer is the best time.

Summer is the time of the festival. Cygnet Folk Festival and MONA FOMA festival in Hobart, , Festivale in Launceston and several other small local festivals in the state are held throughout the summer season. This is a very busy time of the year. So, make sure to book a budget accommodation in Hobart or any other place in Tasmania well in advance for getting your preferred accommodation.

Autumn is also a great season for tourists. People who love to tour and walk on cool crisp evenings, calm sunny days and see lots of autumn colours – this is the time for them to visit Tasmania. It is the perfect time for sampling some best, fresh Tasmanian produce as well. So, if you want to do this you can go to events such as Wine Festival, Agfest and Devonport Food. If you want to visit Tasmania during this time of the year, you may also get attracted towards events such as rally car race and Tasmanian arts festival.

Touring during winters is also not a bad idea. You can relax indoors sitting beside a log fire, visit alpine national parks or indulge in beachfront winter storm. You can even join with locals at The Longest Night Film Festival if you visit in the month of June. If your visit is in July, you can go at Chocolate Winterfest or the Hobart's Festival of the Voices.

Spring welcomes return of warmer, longer days accompanied by cool fresh nights. It is the season of blooming gardens in grounds of historic houses, the flower farms including acclaimed Tulip Festival and explosion of trout & other fish in the lakes and highland rivers.

Other than the events and festivals that you need to keep in mind for determining whether to visit Tasmania during that season or not, you also need to consider the weather conditions and whether it is suitable for you. December-March are the warmest months. Average temperature during summers are between 17-23 degrees Celcius. Autumn has sunny days. May to August is winter. In winter the temperatures are between 3-11 degrees Celcius. But since Tasmania is beside Southern Ocean, the climate may vary to a great extent on any day.
