by Ivan Shelly marketing
Cooking is an art, they say and the people of Lancashire perfectly justify the statement. The region boasts of several dishes, some adopted and some indigenous, that have got not just the locals but even the tourists and travelers drooling over the exotic taste of the preparations they have in their menu. If you ever go on a ride for some lip-smacking dishes, this city is certainly going to leave your appetite satisfied. The good food Lancashire offers is one of the most considerable points one may count on for the city.

There are some other attractions that Lancashire is famous for such the scenery alongside the road leading to the city. The town is also famous for its museums and places that have historical importance. But food is a necessity and good food is everyone’s weakness which this city clearly proves true. Not only the food served here tastes great but the dexterity in making dishes is very clear from the dishes invented here that have made it to the list of must-haves for many people – locals, nationals and internationals alike.

So what is so special about these local dishes that has got so many food lovers (and non-lovers) attracted to Lancashire? Here are some of the dishes, some of them a local favourite and some just prepared to perfection.

Lancashire Hotpot:

As the name suggests, this is a traditional dish that has been invented in the city and was initially served during the times of industrialization in Lancashire. Gradually, a similar version emerged in the market and the next thing we know (I know, specifically) is that commoners loved it and they haven’t got enough of this even today.

This exquisite dish is made from mutton, onion and potatoes and baked all day in the oven at low heat. At the time when it was invented, oysters were also part of the ingredients but gradually it was from the dish as it was proving to be costly. According to a food recipe survey, it was found out that the Lancashire hotpot is one of the most endangered traditional dishes in the world.

Cheese and onion pie:

Yet another traditional dish, the cheese and onion pie is another that ought not to be missed when visiting Lancashire. Some websites refer to this as a “spectacularly tasty pie” because it is made from only two ingredients – onion and cheese. Given the simplicity of this dish, the aroma and the taste it has is a real treat to the taste buds and worth savoring.

The cheese used in it is the Lancashire cheese, a cheese that is made from an English cow’s milk from Lancashire. This cheese is used anywhere from dinner tables to pubs as accompaniments.

Good food Lancashire is defined by these two dishes that have also aided the city to make its mark on the world cuisine map. To know what is so special of this cheese, you need to drop in to Lancashire.
