What you need to know to prepare for your CBAP certification exam expertly

For business analysis professionals worldwide, getting certified from International Institute of Business Analysis TM (IIBA®) is a significant achievement, which improves their knowledge and practical skill-set and goes a long way in enhancing their career prospects. But for cracking the exam, having clocked the minimum professional work duration is not enough. There are other factors too which needs to be analyzed and worked upon.

1.       Go through the requirements

The first and basic rule is to know if you are qualified or not. So, before starting the application process, you need to understand the basic requirements:

·         Minimum high school education or its corresponding.

·         Minimum total work experience of 7,500 hours in Business Analysis. Categorically, it will deduce to 5 years’ of professional work experience as BA, in approximation.

·         Minimum 900 hours work experience in 4 Knowledge Areas out of the 6. These 900 hours are inclusive in total 7500 hours of total work experience requirement.

·         Professional development experience of minimum 21 hours, from a training course in last 4 years. The training should be undertaken only from a training provider, endorsed by IIBA.

·         You will also need to submit two references from a client or your manager, or a CBAP® recipient.

2.       Clock more work experience than the minimum requirement

In the event that some of your tasks are not recognized by IIBA as characteristic BA tasks, and drops your count to below 7500 mark, it is better to document more hours to be sure to qualify.

3.       Understand what are the typical business analysis tasks accepted by BA

It is common that some BA professionals confuse various tasks as IIBA acceptable tasks, while they are not. Business analysis and project management are different, and corresponding tasks of both should be characterized clearly.

4.       Use professional training

Before starting the exam application process, undertake CBAP training only from a professional, certified and recognized trainer, so that you get acquainted with all the required details and build your professional competence comprehensively to crack the exam code.
