A beautiful smile is always in season. Healthy and beautiful set of teeth can definitely give you such smile and boost your confidence. Everybody has different oral health needs considering different types of dental problems like oral cavities, yellowing of teeth, sensitive teeth etc. That's why dentists say that everybody needs a different toothpaste. To choose the toothpaste suitable for you you should know different ingredients present in a toothpaste and role they perform in maintaining oral health.

IDA seal : First step in choosing a toothpaste should be, checking it for IDA(Indian Dental Association) seal  of acceptance. It is the hallmark of professional recognition of the safety, efficacy and usefulness of an oral care product.

Abrasive agents

A toothpaste should remove food and bacteria from your teeth, hence it should have an abrasive agent. Abrasive agents are silicates like hydrated silica, calcium carbonate and hydrated alumina. With the brushing movement of your wrist they will scrub away bacteria and plaque. They act as cleaning agents.

Fluoride

Fluoride has decreased tooth decay and cavities significantly over past few years. Whenever you eat something, it leaves traces of sugar and starch on your teeth. Fluoride strengthens the tooth enamel, which makes teeth less susceptible to chipping or cracking. Consumption of coffee, cigarettes, wine, tea and sugary drinks stains your teeth and weakens the enamel. Fluoride fights this issue. Fluoride reverses the process of tooth decay to fight the previous damage.

Detergent

The foam is created because of presence of detergent in your toothpaste. Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is used as detergent.

Toothpastes according to dental problems:

Yellowing of teeth: To prevent yellowing of teeth you might need whitening toothpaste. These pastes have extra abrasives and chemicals that binds with stains to remove them. For teeth whitening, look for toothpaste containing modified silicone abrasives. Dentists can suggest you the whitening toothpaste of best and trusted brand.

Sensitive teeth : If you feel pain while eating or drinking hot or cold things,  you should find toothpaste formulated specially for sensitivity. Go for toothpastes having desensitizing agents like strontium chloride or potassium nitrate. A visit to a Dental clinic can help you select a suitable toothpaste for sensitivity.

Cavities: Mineral fluoride fights cavities. It protects teeth from cavity causing acids by coating them.

Tartar control : Tartar is nothing but bacterial plaque that has hardened. Once the tartar gets formed, it is impossible to remove it by simple brushing. Using toothpastes containing tartar fighting elements can prevent plaques from hardening. Pyrophosphates and zinc citrate should be present in toothpastes  for tartar control.

Natural toothpaste: All natural toothpastes with ADA seal are available in the market. Whitening and anti cavity options are available in herbal toothpastes.
