What to Know about Tee Times for First-Time Golfers?

by Kevin Smith Author

A tee time is a scheduled time for you to tee off, which means you start your round of golf and play nine or eighteen holes. They are usually somewhere between seven minutes and thirty minutes apart. This way, everyone is staggered. It’d be difficult to play if twenty people all wanted to start at the first green at 9:00 a.m. sharp. You’d be on top of each other for the whole game.

How Do You Schedule a Tee Time?

To schedule a time to tee off, you can call the course or the resort. You can also go online and schedule a time. This should be done a few days in advance, maybe even farther in advance if you’re looking for a popular time or looking to schedule two groups back to back. Some courses have strict tee times, while others don’t have them at all. Make sure you call ahead and find out what the policies are at your preferred course.

When Should You Schedule a Tee Time?

There is no best or worst time to tee off, though prices may vary depending on your time slot. Afternoon tee times in Georgia will probably be hot and sunny, while early tee times might have you looking right into the sun while you’re trying to aim your shot. Pick whatever works for you and your group.

Do You Have to Have a Tee Time?

Generally, having a scheduled tee time makes things easier. You can always show up without one and see if there’s an available spot, but the course might not be able to fit you in. It’s safer to schedule a tee time in advance. Check with your preferred golf course to find out what their policy is on dropping in unexpectedly.

What Happens If You Miss the Tee Time?

If you missed the tee time, you can always ask nicely to be scheduled in at another time, but you might have to wait a long time for an available slot. As with just about everything in life, it’s better if you get there early. When you golf, it’s always helpful to take some practice swings before you play, so early is definitely better to warm up and arrive punctually on the green.
