What to Do When You Visit Georgia
by Kevin Smith AuthorGeorgia is
among the most populous and wealthiest states in the US. It has a lot of
beautiful places to visit that are popular for residents and tourists. If you
plan to go on a trip to this place, these are the things that you can do:
Explore
the Rock City
Rock City is
among the oldest and most famous tourist attractions in Georgia. Located in
Lookout Mountain, this place was opened to the public in 1932. Here are some
things to do when you visit it:
Stand on Lover's Leap
If you don't have a fear of heights, then you should definitely go to Rock
City's Lover's Leap. It's a special spot in the mountain that lets you see up
to 7 different states if the sky is clear and there's no fog.
Watch a Bird Show
This is a fairly new attraction, which started only in 2006. It focuses on
showing different birds in their natural habitat. The show is usually done 3
times a day from Thursdays to Sundays. You can watch it by paying the entrance
fee.
Try to Solve the Maize Crop Maze
This is only available every autumn when Rock City officials make a large maze
from corn crops. The labyrinth is especially famous for couples who want to
hold hands while trying to get out.
Go to
the Centennial Olympic Park
Located in
downtown Atlanta, the Centennial Olympic Park is a 22-acre public park that's
visited by millions of tourists every year. It's a venue used for major sports
competitions, concerts, and fireworks displays. Among the biggest events that
it hosted was the 1996 Summer Olympics, the last time it was held in the
country.
Even if
there are no events, you can still visit this place. You can play in the
Fountain of Rings. It's an interactive fountain that uses computer-controlled
mechanisms to propel jets of water and show flickers of lights. It's a famous
attraction for families, especially those with kids.
You can also
try the Skyview Atlanta, a transportable Ferris wheel that's over 200-feet
tall. It features 42 air-conditioned cars. Being at the highest point of the
ride gives you a clear view of the park's surrounding area.
Visit
the Georgia Aquarium
The third
largest aquarium in the world, Georgia Aquarium is located in a 13-acre
facility. It opened in 2005 and has been getting at least 2 million visitors
every year. All of their tanks hold a total of 10 million US gallons of water.
This aquatic
reserve houses hundreds of species of marine animals from around the globe.
These creatures include seahorses, bottlenose dolphins, sea lions, beluga
whales, sharks, manta rays, and even penguins. There are also plenty of
colorful fish, such as butterflyfish, clownfish, and angelfish.
Aside from
watching marine creatures swim, there are other things to do in Georgia Aquarium. You can go
diving in their tanks and swim with the fish up close. There are also fun
activities for children, like petting the dolphins and sea lions.
