What to Do in India

by Kosher River Cruise Kosher Tour Operator
Home to one billion people, India is a land of mystery and diversity houses a mix of ancient temples and the fastest growing tech-industry in the world. Explore this beautiful country and get the opportunity to experience its sumptuous cuisine and centuries-old culture with kosher cruises and tours.

Here are three things we suggest you should do:

Visit the Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal

India's central landmark is a monument of love commissioned by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to architects Ustad Ahmad Lahouri and Ustad Isa, as a final resting place for his favorite wife affectionately referred to as Mumtaz Mahal who died during childbirth. Legend states that his wife, on her deathbed, made Jahan promise to build her the most majestic tomb when she passed away. The Taj Mahal is a relatively busy tourist site, with an average of three million visitors a year. If you want to avoid the bustling crowds, it is suggested you go in the early morning, except on Fridays as it is closed.

Hike the Himalayas

Himalayas Mountain

It is written in Hindu scriptures that you cannot do justice to the Himalayas in "a hundred ages of the gods." This is partially true as the Himalayan peaks stretch a whopping 4,000 kilometers from Myanmar to Kyrygstan. But now, there are plenty of popular trekking tours that you can go on to hike this majestic mountain. It is advisable to go after the summer monsoon for safety purposes. Aside from appreciating the views from 2500 meters above sea level, you will enjoy the cultural diversity of the regions. Logistics wise, this adventure is a little bit difficult, but the struggle is definitely worth it.

Attend a Festival

Holi festival

You will not be able to do this year-round, so you will have to time your trip to India. 'Holi' is India's most colorful festival taking place sometime in March. This holiday celebrates the triumph of good over evil with people running around throwing colorful powder everywhere. There's also 'Diwali,' also known as the festival of lights. People decorate their houses with candles and lanterns and families prepare gifts to exchange with each other. Diwali occurs sometime between October and November, during the arrival of Autumn.

Enjoying the breathtaking wonders of India while with a kosher tour group makes for the  best Jewish travel experience. You get to keep kosher while being able to immerse yourself in the culture of one of the world’s most colorful countries. See you on your next adventure!
