What to consider while selecting your magnet suppliers?

by monika r. Consultant
A magnet is basically a piece of material or an object which produces magnetic field. The magnets come in different types. The different types of magnets contain different resistance to heat, varying degrees of magnetic strength, permanence, tolerance of corrosion, resistance to heat etc.

Generally the magnets are categorized into two ways. It includes permanent magnets and non-permanent magnets. In non-permanents, an external source of power is essential in order to trigger them to be active. The electromagnets are basically non-permanent magnets. The electromagnet can be used in different applications such as biomagnetic separation, SC and DC motors, transformers, solenoid valves etc.

How to select the best magnets suppliers?

Buying a magnet is not a difficult job to perform, but which is most suitable for your application and which supplier helps you in the best way is a tough job to do. Before finalizing the magnet supplier, make it sure that you picked the right magnet vendor. First of all perform a little searching in finding the appropriate supplier, after finding the right vendor, simply make a call and discuss all the details. Always select the vendor which provides you the right combination of following things. These are:

• Quality.

• Price.

• Service.

• Delivery.

Selection of proper magnet?

There are several variables which should be observed in the selection of an appropriate magnet. In order to get the best magnet for your application, there are few things which should be considered important:

• First of all consider the surface of the work. Is it rough, scaly, machined, irregular shape or flat?

• Provide width, thickness, weight, length and area of contact for the magnet.

• Consider the air gap. Air gap is basically a distance from work surface to face of magnet. It can be an actually air or non-ferrous material

• Consider the composition of work i.e. tool steel, hot or cold rolled steel, , nickel, high carbon content steel, carbide, etc.

• Consider the heat. The heat is basically a temperature in which the magnet will work.

• Consider the duty cycle of the magnet. Will the particular magnet be on 100%, 50%, or 25% of the time?

• Consider all the method of operations of a magnet. Will the magnet be turned on & off automatically or manually? If it turns on and off automatically, the how many times per minute?

• Send prints, sketches, digital images, Polaroid shots, parts, and whatever other information will help in selecting the suitable magnet.

Magnets are used for different purposes. It is used in almost every electronic application. There are quite a lot of properties that magnet manufacturers take into concern while formulating magnets. The properties include magnetic retention under heat and corrosion, ease of fabrication, porosity, cost and magnetic strength. The permanent magnets are made from a variety of materials. In permanent magnet, the strength of the magnetic field is constant. The magnets hold their own set of characteristics.
