Plastic surgery may be an option for you if you're not happy with the way you look for one reason or another. It can be an option if you've recently been in an accident, or it can help you regain your youth if you're not happy with your appearance at your current age. These are some of the questions you'll need to ask the plastic surgeon before you have the first procedure done on yourself, however:

1. How Much Will the Procedure Cost?

One question you'll need to have someone answer before you get your first procedure done is about the cost of the procedure. You need to know how much the specialist is going to charge you for the plastic surgery. This is important because insurance companies usually don't pay for anything that they deem is a cosmetic procedure.

2. What Types of Payment Plans Do You Have?

You should also ask the plastic surgeon if there are any alternative payment plans available. Perhaps the facility offers in-house financing. Maybe the facility is affiliated with third-party lenders who loan clients money to have their plastic surgery procedures performed. There might also be a discount opportunity or membership plan. You won't know unless you take the time to talk to your provider to see what you can find out.

3. Do You Have Before and After Photos?

You will want to choose the top plastic surgeon in the area to perform the work you need on your face and body. One way you can tell if you're working with a top provider is to ask to see the before and after pictures of all the procedures that person has done. The surgeon should have no problem offering you some pictures of the work he or she has done. You can judge whether you want to move forward with the procedure by the way the pictures look to you. Go ahead and schedule your procedure if you feel comfortable with the pictures you see.

4. How Long Will It Take to Heal?

The time it takes to heal from a plastic surgery procedure will depend on the type of procedure you're getting and how intrusive that procedure is. Some procedures are so minimally intrusive that you can go back to work the same day you have them done. Others may take you several months to recover from. This is why you need to talk to your plastic surgeon about such specifics. You'll need the information so that you can set up care and transportation. You'll also need to sort it out with your employer to get the appropriate amount of time off from work.

5. Is the Procedure Inpatient or Outpatient?

You need to ask the provider where he or she will perform the procedure. Some facilities have areas inside their sites where they perform plastic surgery procedures. Other providers have alliances with the hospitals, and they will have you go to the hospital for the procedure. It may be inpatient or outpatient. An outpatient procedure may take only a few hours to perform. You'll spend some time in a recovery room, and you'll be released as soon as you're feeling better. An inpatient procedure may require you to stay overnight after the surgery is done. This is more common with something like a breast reduction or augmentation.

6. Do You Offer Less Intrusive Options?

You can also inquire about whether the provider offers less intrusive options. There may be some alternative procedures available to you if you would rather not go the intrusive route. Of course, that's up to you, but you need to ask so that you can gather all the information you need to make an informed decision. If you feel comfortable with everything you've heard from the provider, you can proceed with getting your procedure done. You will most likely be pleased with the results you get if you use the methods discussed here to make the right decision on the provider.

Take Your First Procedure With Confidence

Now you know what you need to ask before you have a plastic surgery procedure performed. You can now go through with the procedure with a heap of confidence and strength.
