However, if you are not sure or getting confused about where to start and how to make it right, then I can surely help you out in taking the decisions and preparing a feasible DIY checklist for your upcoming personalized move.

How to sort items for a DIY move?

It is critical to move the goods that you intend to use after you have moved to some other place, but knowing what to move and what to leave behind is important. In both the cases whether it is a local or interstate house moving, if you begin packing every household goods coming your way, then you will end up spending a lot of time, effort, energy, and money in packing and moving. Thus, managing your inventory and knowing what to move and what not is a serious step that needs to be performed cautiously while relocating a house, whether it is a DIY or using professional moving vendors.

Generally, there are a few primary factors that decide whether you have to move that item or not. But have a look at how to decide what to move and dispose of while shifting home.

Does the item hold a special place in your life? Is it an antique or you have bought it from some famous place? If your items belong to such categories then you need to carry along for sure otherwise if an item is in bad condition or unusual shape then you must avoid taking it together. Also, there is a situation when you have various articles of similar kinds then you must consider the one which is in the best of its condition.

Easy packing checklist

Relocation the entire home, especially if you are planning for a DIY house move is not an easy task. Some of the household items are essential for survival, and then there come the articles that are meant to be left behind.

Thus, there is certain household stuff that you must consider while preparing a packing checklist. Some of them commonly include:

Clothes and accessories- Though it is the fact that whenever you move to your new home, you always prefer to buy some new clothes, obviously you will be taking the old ones with you. However, not all old clothes and accessories are meant to be carried along. You must discard or donate the very old ones that you don’t wear because there is no point in carrying the stuff that you don’t use anymore.

The same goes for the accessories as well. The tip is, throw junk and consider only the things that are in the good condition.

First aid box- You cannot just afford to do such a mistake of not taking the basic first aid box with you. You never know when can an emergency occur and you may need an ointment, medicine, etc. So, to deal with the situations which might hurt you, you should carry a first aid box with all the essentials.

Chargers and keys- Do not forget t pack your mobile phone and laptop chargers. These devices are mostly used by people to gain access to the internet world. Also, make sure you have packed all the keys with you, your locker key, room keys, new house keys, etc.

Toiletries- The basic toiletries must be carried if you do not want to buy a new set soon after relocating to your new home. You will need most of these regularly, so if your old set of toiletries is still okay, there is no point in buying the new one. Take your toothbrush, cream. Oil etc with you while you are leaving for your new home.

Cooking utensils- Consider packing the basic cooking utensils that you can use on reaching your new home. So, if the kitchen and cooking appliances are in good condition, do move them when moving home. The most basic ones may involve, pan, forks, pots, knives are useful and you can carry them along for sure.

Important documents- Academic certifications, educational degrees, certificate of birth, bank documents, debit card, credit card, etc. You cannot misplace them, so when you are packing these documents, make sure you secure them in a separate bag that can be easily carried along while moving.

Prescribed medicines and prescriptions- Apart from packing the first aid box with you, you must carry the medicines if you are suffering from any allergy or health condition. In addition to this, don’t forget to take your prescriptions and the previous test reports, if any.

This is because you may not be able to stay in contact with your current doctor or you may not get the medicines from the chemist that you will find in the middle of the way.

Jewelry and ornaments- Pack the expensive jewelry and ornaments personally because things are not packed by the movers. And if you are planning a DIY then you need to pack them even more carefully because you will be puzzled between all the other household stuff that you wish to relocate.

Other essential articles include-

Scissors

Packing tapes

Tissues and wipes

Disposable bags

Cash

Torch

And as I said earlier, keep all the things that are in god condition, shape, and size.

If you want to avoid a DIY, you can surely do that by hiring competent moving partners- Agarwal packers and movers, who have solutions to almost every kind of move.

Happy moving!
