What Lifestyle Tips One Must Follow For Healthy Teeth?

by Allen Rose Doctor
A balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle must be maintained from your childhood to maturity stage. To maintain oral hygiene, brushing with fluoride contained toothpaste at least twice a day, flossing and regularly visiting dentist for dental check-ups is essential to keep your teeth in a healthy condition.

Maintain a Healthy Diet

Studies have proved that your diet directly correlates to your dental health. Like all other parts of the body, teeth also need essential vitamins and minerals to function properly. You must keep a check on the food that you eat as they not only affect your general health but your teeth and gums too.

Avoid consuming sugar filled sodas and other sweetened drinks and food as they can result in tooth decay. A balanced diet includes fruits and vegetables and foods that are a rich source of starch and protein.

Increase the intake of such Foods

Some of the foods that are good for your dental health include:

  • Yogurt and milk are considered as the most beneficial food that help your teeth and gums to stay healthy as they both are high source of calcium.

  • Instead of having normal tea or coffee, start consuming green tea as it contains fluoride and poly-phones antioxidant and reduces plaques and cavities.

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables are rich in Vitamin C and promote healthy gum tissue.

  • Cheese is rich in calcium and phosphate and balances the pH level of your mouth. It produces saliva, kills bacteria and builds tooth enamel.

Avoid Smoking

Smoking causes bad breath, breathing problems, increases the risk of gum diseases and mouth cancer. It also makes your teeth yellow. If you want to maintain your mouth and overall health, quit smoking, because a person who smokes is six times more likely to develop mouth cancer than a person who doesn’t smoke.

Limit the Consumption of Alcohol

High consumption of alcohol can increase the risk of developing mouth cancer. According to cancer research, 75-80% of patients suffering from mouth cancer agree that they drink alcohol on a regular basis. Alcohol also erodes the outer surface of the teeth that results in the enamel loss.

Avoid Substances that can stain your Teeth

Substances such as cigarette, alcohol, tea and coffee can stain your teeth and can make them yellowish. To protect your teeth from getting stained, limit the consumption of such things.
