IELTS General can be extended up to three years for some of the Australia application visa programs. However, IELTS validity is for 2 years only.
Australian Immigration department follows a point based immigration system to invite skilled and qualified workers to come and settle in the country on permanent basis. To apply for Australia PR, an applicant is required to take IELTS and score at least 6 bands in each module of reading, writing, listening, and speaking. However, these points will not give you any additional points score towards overall immigration points. If you want to claim extra points, you are required to score at least IELTS 7 bands in each module of reading, writing, listening and speaking to get 10 additional points and IELTS 8 bands in each module of reading, writing, listening and speaking will give you 20 additional points.
Alternatively there are other language requirement exams that you may take apart from IELTS like PTE Academic that is equally acceptable in Australia. The PTE exam is also valid for two years.
