What is The Success Rate Of Hair Transplantation?
by Andrew Martin Health ConsultantWhen
one opt for a cosmetic procedure people often gets worried about how successful
the results be. It is normal to worry after spending ample amount whether the
successful results are delivered or not.
So
if you are thinking about the same thing you are not wrong it’s obvious to
consider the success rate…
Cosmetics surgeries have now become very
popular and now being opted by not only the celebrities but also by the
commoners. This could be due to increasing aesthetic sense and importance of
looks to step ahead in both personal and professional life. Balding is a global
problem of both men and women and affects psychological status negatively.
Everyone usually wants to get rid of this problem and thus hair transplant
cosmetic surgeries are growing demands exponentially.
What
is hair transplant?
It is a cosmetic minimally invasive surgical
procedure which is intended to cover the bald areas on scalp and face including
beard, moustache, eyebrows and eyelashes. The surgical procedure includes
harvesting of hair follicles from the donor area which is selected based on the
hair density preferably the back and side of the scalp (occipital area) or body
hairs. These harvested hairs are then transplanted to the desired recipient
bald site.
This procedure is often mistaken as
regenerative procedure which is not so. One should be clear with the fact
beforehand that this procedure is purely restorative and just replace the hair
follicles from higher dense areas to the recipient bald area.
The procedure delivers permanent results but
does not cease or stop further progression of hair loss from the existing
natural hairs lying adjacent to the transplanted hairs. But yes, your
transplanted hairs would stay for life.
Including, the success of the hair transplant
cosmetic surgery could not be assessed immediately after the surgery. You need
to wait for approximately 9-12 months for the results to be appreciable but the
results are worth waiting for.
There are 2 primary techniques to perform hair
transplant including:
1.
FUT
hair transplant (Follicular unit transplantation
or strip technique): FUT technique involves the harvesting of a strip from the
back and side of the head which is then further dissected to separate
individual graft along with adequate amount of surrounding tissues. These
separated grafts are then carefully transplanted at the desired bald recipient
site.
2.
FUE
hair transplant (Follicular unit extraction): FUE
hair transplant technique involves extraction of individual grafts from the
scalp with the help of punch like surgical device under high magnification.
These extracted grafts are then implanted at the recipient site after
preparation of recipient site by slitting.
Each graft harvesting technique has their individual pros and cons based on which they is selected for patients. The decision of technique depends on the extent of baldness, age of the patient, gender of the patient, number of grafts available/required and quality and quantity of hair follicles at the donor area.
Hair transplant success
rate:
The success rate usually varies with the
particular case which is decided by the hair transplant surgeon during the
primary consultation. That’s when the surgeon will clearly explain the
realistic expectations you can have with the procedure as per your condition.
There are many factors considered to ensure the success of the hair transplant
including age, extent of baldness, reason of baldness and region of baldness
involved. The hair density is thoroughly checked to assure the success of the
procedure.
Thus after careful observation and diagnosis if
the situation looked feasible then the success rate could be allocated. The
success rate of hair transplant varies from 95-100% in Medispa hair transplant
clinic.
If the success rate is not worthy, we clearly
inform the patient about what they can expect and inform them to either wait
for the condition to be stabilised or avoid undergoing the procedure.
Success of hair transplant by FUT technique: Each step of FUT technique is performed under
high magnification which ensures negligible damage of hair follicles. This
technique offers higher success rate as offers provision of higher number of
follicular grafts extraction and covering larger bald area. The chance of
damage to hair follicles is less as the harvesting of hair follicles is done
under proper magnified vision.
Success of hair transplant by FUE technique: FUE technique employs blind extraction of hair
follicles by punching underlying scalp tissue to retrieve individual grafts.
Thus this procedure has more chances of damage to hair follicles especially
with wavy or curly hairs.
