What is the importance of executive communication training?

by Jaques Montegolifier Chartered Accountant
Leaders always want to establish a standard for themselves in the corporate industry. They are the ones who lead, and not the ones who follow. Leaders have a unique style of approach to situations and solve them like nobody else. They have the power and the authority to mould the organization as per their goals and aspirations.

The leadership potentials of executives are measured using the following components –

•    What do they say?
•    How they put it across?
•    When do they say?
•    To whom are they referring?
•    What context do they use?

It is better to brief individuals on their roles in a discussion while interacting with senior executives. This quality helps leaders establish credibility and influence people. It is important to note that delivering simple, concise, and precise messages helps increasing attention and interest during discussions or presentations. Executive communication training helps executives identify their potential by launching programs and training sessions for effective communication.

Why is it important?
Like executive presence, executive voice also has its significance. It connects more with strategic instincts and the awareness of signals sent while interacting with people daily.

Strategic leadership is one of the most critical aspects of this training. Many top-ranking executives fail to promote their leaders since they believe that those leaders cannot handle situations wisely.

Following are a few coaching strategies to help executives:

1.    Understanding the context: While addressing people in a meeting, the speaker needs to know the context of the speech and the target audience. If the speaker fails to connect the ideas with the topic of the discussion, those ideas become worthless and may ruin the whole presentation. Thus, learners need to observe and listen carefully before giving their opinions on any topic of discussion. When it is their turn, they are mentally prepared to speak without looking nervous or lost.

2.    Being a visionary: Executive speakers focus more on the organization than on themselves. They develop the ability to foresee situations and give aspirations a place for future transformations. This kind of executive vision helps make fair decisions for the benefit of the corporation. All the decisions should include joint inputs and reflect how they might affect the organization.

3.    Cultivation of strategic relationships: Senior leaders and executives may highlight priorities and changes that were limitations of the organization. To develop an executive voice, leaders should choose people and understand how their ideas might help in a strategic business partnership.

Leaders also opt for public speaking training sessions where they learn to maintain composure and emotions while speaking, along with other presentation skills.
