What is something you want to “get off your chest”?

“Shashi..I need your mathematics notebook. I will return it tomorrow” she asked.

“Sure.” I handed over my notebook to her.

Next day she returned the notebook.

*Two day past*

“You checked the last page of your mathematics notebook” she whispered.

“Nope. What happened” I bumbled.

“Nothing much. I wrote something on the last page. Do have a look”. With mischievous smile she left.

I sprinted to the classroom. Jumped to my seat. Squeezed out my mathematics notebook and opened the last page.

“I love you shashi ”.

I stood aghast for few moments. Regaining consciousness, I closed my notebook and put back in the bag.

Lunch got over and class began, but I was lost. I couldn’t concentrate, I couldn’t write and I couldn’t respond. All I cared was for class to get over. The girl who seemed nothing to me now meant the world to me.

Post lunch three hours session seemed three years long.

As school got over, I dashed towards the school bus, but the seat beside her was already occupied. I couldn’t take off my eyes of her. She saw me and gave impish smile.

As schoolmates got off and the bus got vacate, I approached and sat beside her.

“I read the last page” I whispered in her ears.

“Ahaan! so you finally got the time to read.” she grumbled.

“Yeah.” I replied anxiously.

*Meanwhile her home arrived. She got off from the seat*

“Can I get your number?” I gibbered.

*Looking back. Staring at me*

“99********”.

I never felt so accomplished even after securing top rank in class as I felt that day.

Overjoyed I reached home and picked my mobile. I saved the contact as M.

In those days SMS package was prevalent. I got the pack of 250 messages.

Shivering I typed “Hi” and sent the message.

Next four hours I was agitated. Impatiently gazing at mobile every few seconds.

Finally a message from M popped. In haste I picked the mobile. “Goodnight.sweet dreams.” Dreams couldn’t have been more sweeter than the message.

She was in different section so only time I got with her was in school bus.

School was never so fun and weekends never so burdensome. She added new flavours to life. Next few days I was in paradise.

One fine day, while purchasing vegetables I observed a familiar personality. My schoolmate was standing in nearby shop. I went straight and greeted him. He too responded amicably.

Divided by class sections but united by juice. We sat at nearby shop. After discussing daily life matters I asked about his love relationship.

He told he is committed and have met his love of life. When I enquired about the girl, he refused to tell. “I promised to keep it private.”

“Okay. Atleast give me some hint about her” I jabbered.

“Well, she studies in my section” he replied.

Skeptically I asked “How you got together?”.

“She took my notebook and returned back with conveying her feelings by inking them on the last page.”

I was numb for few seconds. The juice refrained to pass through esophagus. I was literary laughing at my foolishness.

The word love was now alien to me. I could no longer trust anyone in such matters.

I slowly distanced myself from the girl. I said nothing to her.I never shared the incident with anyone in school as I never wanted to diminish the image of that girl.

Life taught a crucial lesson at a very early stage of life. I promised myself never to get in relationship with anyone.

P.S.- I have no hard feelings for that girl. But the incident surely changed my psychology towards love and relationship matters.
