What is Printed circuit board?

by nowseo seo nowseo

A printed circuit board or a PCB is a device that is used to electrically connect electronic components using conducting tracks and pads. These are the integral component of a system. Generally, a PCB contains a large number of passive and active components. These PCBs are generally present in the simplest electronic product such as a switchboard.

Types of PCBs

1. Single sided PCB:

It is the basic type of board system which contains only one layer of the base material. These are used for volume production with low cost requires and are also used for simple circuits such as that of toys, power sensors, relays, etc.

2. Double sided PCB:

These board systems have both the sides with the metal conductive layer. Tiny holes are present in this kind of boards for connecting one side to the other side.

3. Multi-layered PCB:

These circuit boards contain more than 2 copper conductive layers. These are used in high-speed circuits.

These are some of the most popular types of printed circuit boards available in the market and can also be searched through https://www.smthelp.com/board-handling-system/.  Although there are other types of PCBs too available in the market, such as- Rigid PCB, Flexible PCB, Rigid-Flex-PCB, High-frequency PCB and aluminium backed PCB.

Advantages of PCB

Every device, including printed circuit boards, have some advantages which its users can look upon.

1# Printed circuit boards are known for noise reduction or low noise. Most of the other systems available in the market create too much noise which degrades the working of the electronic devices, but a printed circuit board prevents noise. A PCB is designed in such a way that the path length between its electrical components is less, which lead to low radiation and pickup of electromagnetic waves.

2# Unlike other circuit board system, PCB ensures that all its electrical components are properly attached to the surface.

3# PCB also ensures that no short circuit takes place in the system. As the copper wire is properly embedded into the tracks, which means that no misplacing of the wire takes place. Also, these circuit boards are controlled using computers which means errors are negligible.

4# PCBs are compact in size. In spite of the number of electronic components present in it, PCB is very small in size. PCB provides a convenient platform to arrange all the components in a compact and efficient way.

Disadvantages of PCBs

Although PCBs are of great advantages, they are followed by some disadvantages too.

1#  As we all know PCB can handle the heavy load with ease but are prone to damage. Once damaged it will be almost difficult of impossible to repair them.

2#  A PCB can carry out a single task. It cannot be reprogrammed to perform another task after its production.

3#  As the copper tracks are very thin, the passing of heavy electric current can lead to the heating of the strips which can cause many problems.

PCB board handling systems

PCB requires a lot of care and handling. To do the task you will need a good board handling system and functioning PCB handling equipments. Thus before placing one in your industry, make sure to have all the arrangements in place and make the most out of the useful machine.
