Poker is said to have been developed sometime during the early 19th century in the USA. Since those early beginnings, this game has grown a lot and became an extremely popular pastime all over the world.

Poker is a type of card game where the player's wages over which hand is best according to that specific game’s rules. Often, a standard 52-card deck is used, but poker games vary in terms of deck configuration, the number of cards in play, the number of cards dealt face-up and face-down, and the number shared by all players. However, all the games have rules that involve one or more rounds of betting.

In modern poker games, the first round of betting starts with players making some form of a forced bet. In a normal poker game, every player bets according to their rank; they believe their hand is worth as compared to the other players. This action then proceeds clockwise as the players turn must either match the maximum previous bet or fold losing all the bet amount so far. A player when matches the bet must also "raise" the bet. This betting round ends when the players have either called the last bet or folded.

Poker has become quite popular since the beginning of the 20th century and has gone from being primarily a recreational activity that is confined to a small group of enthusiasts to a widely popular activity with many professional players and multimillion-dollar tournament prizes.

1. Texas Hold’em

Texas Hold’em is one of the most popular variants of poker. If you find a card room or website that offers poker games, then Texas Hold’em will surely be there featured game with a wide number of tables and stakes for players to choose from.

This game is both easy to learn and improve at. This game's popularity has caused many informational sources to give strategic insights into the game after you learn the basics.

2. Omaha Hi-Lo

Omaha Hi-Lo or Omaha 8-or-Better is a very similar variant to Omaha Hi, except that at the showdown, the pot is divided equally in two between the highest-ranked 5-card poker hand and the lowest. Maybe a different combination of hole cards is used to make both the high and low hands.

To get a low hand, all five cards must be ranked eight or lower. It should also be noted that straights and flushes do not count against a hand in this variant.

It is because players must think about both high and low combinations of hands in this poker variation, things become more complex than simply trying to make the best, highest-ranked hand. Additionally, you’ll have to know the specifications of what makes up a qualifying “low” hand and how those hands are ranked which makes the variant more complicated than its Omaha Hi counterpart.

3. 7-Card Stud

Before Texas Hold’em gained so much of popularity, seven-card stud poker used to hold ground as the most common form of poker. It is a much different game than the previously mentioned game types. Players in this variation receive their hands. Some of these cards will be face-down and hidden from players, while other cards will be placed face-up for the rest of the opponents.

It is because the nature of the game revolves around creating the best five-card poker hand, it is one of the easier poker games anyone can learn. However, it is difficult to master this game because players have their separate hand with some of their cards exposed. In order to understand how to read your opponent’s potential strength and compare it to your own hand, you need to learn the skill if you want to win this game.
