What is AIPMT and How One Can Crack It?

by Skol System Education system

Following the directives of the Supreme Court of India, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) each year conducts All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Test (AIPMT) for various medical colleges across the country such as Amrita University, KMC - Manipal, Armed Forces Medical College - Pune,  JJMMC - Davangare, KIMSU - Karad and MSRC - Bangalore. Besides these institutes, various other institutions under state governments and universities also use the AIPMTscore for admission in their medical and dental colleges. CBSE is responsible for conducting the test, announcement of the result and sharing the merit list with DGHS and participating medical and dental colleges. It is the responsibility of DGHS to conduct counselling sessions for 15 percent seats allocated by the Supreme Court of India under all India quota.

The prime purpose of the AIPMT is to overcome the medical education disparity and make it available across the nation. The objective type written examination contains 180 questions from all the three majors viz., Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Each question carries 4 marks and there is a negative marking system too, means a deduction of 25 percent against each wrong answer. Hence, a deduction of one mark from the total score, if you give one incorrect answer, deduction of two marks from the total score and so on. More than one response to a question is also treated as incorrect. The examination usually held on the first Sunday of May every year. More than 2500 MBBS and 400 dental seats are available through this all India test. Reservation for OBCs is available in the central universities and it is 27 percent.

Better planning, focused approach and good study material can ensure an easy entry into a medical/dental college through AIPMT. Students can also take coaching classes for the preparation of this entrance test, but one can also beat the competition, if he/she is doing self-study in a right manner. Mugging up lots of books and reference guides, cramming of formulas and memorisation of equations never increase one's probability for the success in AIPMT. Instead of reading dozens of books and magazines one should invest his/her precious time on the customised study material. These days, many educational organisations such as SKOL System are providing comprehensive study kits that guide a student to easily cover all the relevant topics. AIPMT is bit tough, but possible. Positive attitude and right strategies can make the task very simple and no one can stop you to become a doctor.
