This skin condition can cause some very painful flare-ups and symptoms but there is one way in which you can help to lessen them.  That is with a Hidradenitis Suppurativa Diet.  There is no official diet to help with the flare-ups and symptoms but more of eliminating foods that cause the symptoms and flare-ups and making sure that you eat ones that help.

Some of the things you should add to your diet include:
• Foods that are rich in fiber—this type of food will help you to keep your hormone and blood sugars level.  Fiber also helps you feel full faster.  It can also help reduce any unhealthy food cravings you might have and help you keep a healthy weight.  It is suggested that you replace sugary, simple carbohydrates with complex carbohydrates and whole foods.  Include in your diet frozen and fresh fruit, dried and fresh herbs, frozen and fresh vegetables, beans, brown rice, and lentils.

• Omega-3 fatty acids—this may help to reduce the inflammation in your body that Hidradenitis Suppurativa can cause.  These foods may be able to reduce overall inflammation and help soothe or prevent symptoms like inflamed sores.  These types of fat are good for your brain, heart, and blood vessels.  You can add these fatty acids to your diet by eating salmon, walnuts, avocados, pumpkin seeds, and sardines.

• Natural sweeteners—you can still enjoy sweet beverages and desserts occasionally but try to choose foods and drinks that are made with natural sweeteners.  They will not cause your blood sugar levels drastically. Replace those sugary drinks with plain water, cut back on foods that are high in added sugar, like sports drinks, cakes, and candy, and reduce the amount of sugar and sweeteners that you add to your beverages and food.  If you use just a small amount of these natural sweeteners can help in replacing high-caloric sweeteners. Try to use Stevia.

There have also been shown some promise in Hidradenitis Suppurativa diet that it helps to include taking certain minerals and vitamins.  In one study, it was found that if a person took a  B-12 supplement, it helped to improve their symptoms.  It has also been found that some with this skin condition has a low blood level of zinc so taking a zinc supplement may help.

You should also consider taking a vitamin D supplement as those with this skin condition usually have low levels of this vitamin.  Taking this supplement could help to improve your symptoms.

In Conclusion

Before you start taking any supplements or making huge changes in your diet, talk to your physician to make sure that what you want to do is okay.  This is especially true if you have any underlying medical conditions.  You could also talk with a dietician who is familiar with this Hidradenitis Suppurativa for their suggestions for a diet and supplements.
