What every Embroidery Digitizer Should Know About Placement!

by Rishi Shah Embroidery digitizing service
Converting beautiful artwork into impressive embroidery is not all that a digitizer should limit himself/herself to doing. Helping your clients with commonplace issues also comes as part and parcel of the job. Advising clients on how to make their embroidered pieces shine and grab the right attention is another important aspect of the job, which is mostly overlooked.

One simple area that digitizers should help out their clients with is the placement of their monograms or logos. While placement might seem like a trivial aspect, it is the one thing that can separate the awesome from the awkward. As people have come to experiment and deviate from tradition, you must have noticed that logos or monograms come perched in some very edgy spots such as bag straps, back of the shoulder and a whole range of other positions. However, for those on the tame side, we suggest placing your monogram or logo according to the following guidelines for results with timeless appeal:

T-shirts – The most favored apparel for logo placement, we recommend going down 7½” - 9” from the shoulder seam on the left side and then 4” - 6” from the center.

Polo/Golf Shirts – Any practiced embroidery digitizer will let you know that the placement on golf shirts shares the same coordinates as t-shirts, with the slight difference that you could use the center placket for reference and should stay in line with the point where the collar meets the shoulder seam.

Sweatshirts – Another popular garment used for company logos and monograms, the trick to correct placement on a sweatshirt is to put the top of the embroidery 3”-3½” below the bottom of the neck edging.

Jackets – We recommend placing left chest logos 6”-8” below the shoulder seam and 3½”-4” over from the center. For back placements, we’ve noted that centering should be adjusted in accordance with the size of the design as well as that of the jacket.

Shirt Pockets – The logos, initials or monograms that go onto shirt pockets are usually quite small and hence easy to place. All you need to do is to center them between the seams and place them quarter to half-an-inch below the edge of the pocket.

Shirt Cuffs – Adorning shirt cuffs with wedding dates or other fancy embellishments requires the design to be placed at the top center of the wrist. Any experienced embroidery digitizer will recommended keeping the placement quarter to half-an-inch above the edge of the cuff and to start about an inch to 1 3/8” from the center of the cuff.

Blouses – When dealing with placement on ladies’ blouses, we suggest going 4”-6” down from the seam on the left shoulder and 3”-5” over from the center. The same measurements work well for robes as well.

Sweaters – Adding a dash of style to ladies’ sweaters, we suggest keeping the placement of the logo/design 3½”-4½” below the collar and have it centered on the front.

One should note that the above measurements are based keeping the center of the logo as reference and are an approximate that should be adjusted for size – something that you should consult with your embroidery digitizer for best results.
