What Ever Happened to Backpage?

by Zoila M. Assistant of Manager

If you were a casual customer of Backpage, you are probably disappointed now as it is no longer in business and it is highly unlikely that it will come back any time soon. What happened is really simple.
Backpage was accused of facilitating sex trafficking, something that is illegal in the majority of United States and thus it was seized by the federal government. This case had a big impact all around the internet as various similar sites were affected. For example, Craigslist removed its casual encounters section completely just to make sure that it won't have to face the same charges. Of course, in CL's case, there was never any sex trafficking going on but the place was full of scammers so this is probably for the best.
After the election of president Trump, the laws about online sex trafficking have become much more strict and everyone needs to adapt. We are not here to judge this decision but the sure thing is that when you live in a country like the U.S. you need to follow the rules. In most European countries laws about sex services are much more liberal and a move like that might sound absurd but this is not the case with the U.S.
As you probably know prostitution is legal only in Nevada and New Jersey so if you desire to pay for sex while living in the U.S. and you don't want to have any problems with the law you should probably visit one of these two states or else travel abroad.
As it is now, Backpage dating is not expected to resume its services any time soon and every site that offers this kind of services will soon face the same problems. Some sex workers have serious complaints about this case as they proclaim that they no longer have a safe way to screen clients but the reality is that if they want to continue doing the same job they should probably move to another country as the U.S. is very strict about prostitution.
In any case, we are not here to judge and we strongly believe that laws should be obeyed but sex is a biological need and every adult should have the access to it. Now, if someone wants to pay for it, he/she should be able to do it as long as everything is done between consensual adults.
