What does the alternative genre of music really mean?by Deep Gold Deep Gold's Music in Maine
The term “Alternative Music” means literally what it sounds like: a different, original music to what you hear in the mainstream pop. This genre of music exemplifies an unconventional musical approach. While the alternative movement has existed for decades, it is only of late that this form of music is garnering attention among the general crowd and not just the hipsters.
Alternative sounds of indie music artists are definitely a break from the trending pop behemoths like Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, to name a few. Take Deep Gold’s music, for example. Pure talent and raw lyrical artistry are what makes alternative artists like him popular.
But how do these artists get discovered if nobody has heard of them, to begin with?
Online music streaming platforms and even local radios have long been a fertile ground for these undiscovered musical talents to be discovered. While professional radio stations are saddled with a load of playing popular music to remain relevant among listeners and advertisers so they can keep on making bazillions of dollars in advertising revenues. Community-based streaming sites like SoundCloud and local radios don’t have that burden, so the music selections can be more liberal: so you can look ahead to hear Deep Gold’s live performance and not just the latest Drake hits.
A good majority of music enthusiasts prefer alternative music to pop. And rightly so. Not only is alternative music driven by passion and not by money, it also sounds more raw and real when compared to the pop music.
