What do you mean by ductless air conditioning?

by Amili R. SEO

For a majority of people, this kind of air conditioning is found to be a lot better than conventional air conditioning as it doesn’t waste energy cooling the ducts in the home or office. However, before you take your final call on choosing this option, it is necessary to understand its pros and cons.

In general, Ductless air conditioning is a feasible option that may be more appropriate than conventional whole-building air conditioning systems in particular situations.  However, it is necessary to keep in mind that ductless systems are meant for spot-cooling/heating only – they are not actually an affordable option for cooling a whole building.  Installation and operation costs are not essentially less costly than a well-upheld traditional system with ducts.  It all depends on the building design and needs of the customer. So, if you’re buying a ceiling mounted AC, have a look at this point.

Ductless air conditioning may found to be more appropriate than conventional air conditioning in specific situations where running duct work is not possible. Ductless units are generally interior, wall-hung units with an outdoor partner unit connected with refrigerant piping.  They are very much similar to window A/C units but operate much more silently and proficiently due to more advanced technological design.  Moreover, interior ductless systems do not cause hindrance to a window. There is a need to assume that the duct work given in the question above is the traditional type, which is installed either in a basement and/or attic space. Many times, there isn’t enough space to install this type of behind-the-walls equipment.  In such conditions, ductless air conditioning may be a feasible solution.

Pros

·         Such units can be installed on a specific basis from room to room, providing the capability to cool or heat each room as required and thereby saving power.  One wonderful application includes office complexes where one’s specific needs emerge out from one area of the building to another. Other great applications would include sun rooms, Florida rooms, and three- or four-season rooms.  The extra bedroom or office located over the garage is also an excellent application for a ductless system.

·         Generally the installation of a ductless system is not as pushy as a typical ducted unit. This differs, however, with each exclusive home design.

·         Nowadays ductless units come with remote-control feature, enabling users to adjust the temperature from anywhere within the visible range of unit.

·         Ductless systems have been installed for years without much trouble.

Today, several other options are available such as floor standing AC but ductless units have their own specialties that make them truly wonderful for today’s environment.
