What do the EDT lessons cover?
Essential driving training or EDT is a program developed to guide beginner drivers on how to drive a vehicle safely. This program includes several driving lessons which covers all the essential driving skills that one must have in order to manoeuvre a car properly. Every lesson is designed keeping in mind basic driving and motoring skills that one should have. Before booking EDT lessons in Dublin, have a look at what do they actually cover -
LESSON 1: CAR CONTROLS AND SAFETY CHECKS
The first lesson of this course includes basic about car maintenance and safety check including inspection of the condition of tyres, oil levels and coolant levels. Learners are also taught about the basic features and secondary & primary controls of a car such as gears, warning lights, steering techniques and so on.

LESSON 2: CORRECT POSITIONING 1
The second lesson of EDT covers some basic techniques of road positioning, that teach how to navigate a car around corners, drive on junctions, straight roads, slip roads & bend etc.

LESSON 3: CHANGING DIRECTION 1
From lesson 3, a trainee learns how to carry out basic but important observational techniques such as when to change lanes, turning out or into junctions, etc.

LESSON 4: PROGRESSION MANAGEMENT
Throughout the fourth lesson, the approved driving instructor or ADI assesses and observes the student's speed control ability, monitors the speed limits in different scenarios or situations, and also guides with some vital information about the danger of driving at high speeds.

This lesson is quite similar to lesson 2. It helps to become familiar with more challenging scenarios like turning safely, reversing the car around a corner and parking a vehicle properly.

LESSON 6: ANTICIPATION AND REACTION
It teaches the learner how to read the road signs well in advance and act accordingly by taking appropriate action.

This lesson trains the driver to drive properly keeping in mind the traffic condition.
LESSON 8: DRIVING SAFELY THROUGH TRAFFIC
It encourages protective driving skills and educates the trainee about risks to safety of other people on the road.

The ninth lesson includes rules and regulations about when to negotiate different closed and open junctions, and use dual carriage ways wherever available, in additionto taking decisions independently.

LESSON 10: SPEED MANAGEMENT
Whether the learner is able to regulate the speed amidst different challenging situations or not is monitored by the ADI throughout speed management.

The student demonstrates his or her driving skills, ability to adjust driving as required.
