What Can You Grow In Pots and Save Money

by Rohan Sinha Author
If you are one of those veggie lovers who happen to be freshness freaks too then this idea is definitely for you. We are sure you can grow your own veggies and eat vegetables dripping with freshness! But the problem is - you can’t grow everything in Designer flower pots or even in large garden pots and planters because there are limitations to what can be grown in pots.

So, we did the hard work for you and tested as many vegetables we could and found out which of the popular vegetables don’t care much where they are planted and won’t give you a hard time growing up. Read up the list we have compiled below.

  • Leafy veggies

These are the ones that have thick leaves, the type that you chop up and mix with other vegetables or make salad of! Leafy vegetables are primarily thriving in winter but with the right care and environment, there is no reason why you can’t get lettuce and spinach to thrive in a different condition. We found that lettuce coriander and spinach did absolutely well in flower pots, designer or otherwise. You can try out other leafy veggies as well and let us know how your experiment turns out.

  • Bulbs

The price of bulbs, be it onion or garlic are always on the rise. Now if you can create the right condition to grow garlic or onion in large garden pots and planters, you can save a lot of money in doing so. The best thing about growing bulbs in a garden pot is that you can reach out into your backyard and pull out the freshest bulb, chop it and drop it into your dishes.

  • Salad supplies

Who doesn’t love salads? We all love munching on fresh veggies pick right out from the garden. Tomatoes, chillies, onions and coriander are all supplies that will make you a perfect salad anytime you want it. Whether you get anything else to grow or not, salad supplies will surely keep you company at all seasons.

Making the Most Bang Out Of Your Buck

Designer flower pots don’t come cheap, and when you buy these to use as gardening pots you are doing two things:

  • Firstly, you are spending money on beautiful pots which can be used on your porch or veranda to add to the aesthetic value of the house;

  • Secondly – you are spending more than you would on a conventional pot.

So when you have already spent that much money on it, you need to cut down on expenses by choosing local produce and growing local vegetables that are easy to harvest.
