What Are The Reasons For Loving The Modern Farmhouse Plans?

by Josh Maguire House Architect

The contemporary farmhouse plans have recently become very enticing, and the reason bears its roots to the years-ago history. Long ago, the farmers had built their homes expeditiously using materials on their hands with a goal to build a home having durable exteriors to avoid repetitive buildings and family-friendly and practical interiors. The tall windows were ideal to look out on the pastures and fields, while the rooms were flooded with natural light. About four to five cooks could prepare meals using the home-grown food in the big spacious kitchens. After a hard day’s work, everyone could relax at the large and covered front porches.

Modern Farmhouse

The present-day farmhouse designs are even coming up on front pages of high-end magazines, but remaining true to their very roots. One major reason is the farmhouse designs’ signature elements, like the kitchen-oriented plan, occasional industrial accents, black and white color scheme unite beautifully with everything the modern families are searching for in their new homes.

Incorporating the salvaged materials for flooring and beams in the home remarkably coincides with the green building trends. The farmhouse vernacular's rustic simplicity aligns with the trending neat and vivid modern designs.

So, if you are to build up a modern farmhouse, then you need to keep certain essentials in mind to have desirous house plans for your modern farmhouse.

1. A Large Accommodating Front Porch

Outdoor living becomes easier with a front porch. The most recognizable element of the farmhouse designs is the huge front porch. Wide and deep porches allow the friends, families, and neighbors to occupy all at once. Even rocking chairs and porch swings could occupy some space.

2.  White Exteriors Supported by Vertical Accents

Farmhouses are distinguished by their curb appeal and classic elements. The farmhouse designs with more vertical exterior elements are the modern farmhouses clad with rustic yet durable materials, like sheet metal, fiber-cement siding, and board-formed concrete. Often the black barn lighting serves as an accent, thereby tying the house to the agricultural buildings on the farm. The white walls finely coupled with the black-rimmed windows and door, bring up a stately farmhouse impression.

3.  Functional Interiors

With the mudrooms, practical storage solutions are added to space. Most farmhouse designs depend on the black-and-white color palette, as well as on the interiors, or else with the simplest color scheme. Dark and wide plank hardwood floors complement the white walls. The hardwood flooring is beneficial since cleaning it is easier and so a great choice for the household, especially if anyone is suffering from allergies.

Through banding, the interior walls resemble wood panels built, other than drywall, which could be available in the olden days.

Wood beams defined ceiling and slats are good in reinforcing the interior’s rustic simplicity.  The floor plan, being true to form, centers around a fine open kitchen and a great room that is anchored by the large fireplace.

Having a mudroom off the garage is a necessity in the farmhouse plans, where it becomes easier to park the muddy boots. The mudrooms are practical. They have found their way into all-style plans.

Antique fixtures and furnishings are another common interior element, which is found in the farmhouses. These are used in moderations, and when used against the white walls and ceilings, they look right at the homes. The farmhouse plans are having a lot of commonalities with the country designs. Both these styles are sharing a fondness for comfortable furniture while overdoing the formal furnishing arrangements and furniture.

The only difference is the accessories are minimally arranged in the farmhouse design. They are restraint along the clean lines as well as the high contrast modern color palette for giving a more sophisticated farmhouse appearance other than a country home.

4.  A Spacious kitchen

The result of Kitchen Island is abundant space for casual dining. Since the kitchen is the heart of the entire farmhouse plan, so the kitchen islands, with barn lighting, deep sink, and a gooseneck faucet work in collaboration in reinforcing a farmhouse look. There is plenty of room for storage in the kitchen designs, and as well as ample space to place mason jars in the antique cupboards. Another common element in the farmhouse plans is the pantries. Sliding barn doors form another natural choice for modern farmhouses; they are even great for separating rooms in the open floor plans

5.  Amusing Details

With classic details, there will be suitable differences. Tall windows will not hold true to the farmhouse plans. The right ones are the oversized windows as they cast light much deep into the interior spaces. In the process, they provide excellent views of the skyline, landscapes as well as approaching weather. By upgrading to the Low-e windows in the modern farmhouses, it becomes best for interiors and exteriors - ample sunlight can enter in winter without any significant loss of heat. Opening the doors and windows on the front porch promotes fresh airflow through the farmhouse. Centered on a vaulted great room, the open floor plans are anchored by the large hearth.

6. A Metal-Clad Gable Roofs

Metal roofs are the staple of farmhouse designs. Its added benefits are equipping them with solar panels is relatively easier, when you target going green.

Among the skyscrapers and two or four storey buildings, the farmhouses stand out by infusing modernity and traditionalism. Let it be a fast-moving city, where you are staying, your farmhouse style residence will always make your residence different from the others.
