What are the Effective ways to Clean Sliding Glass Door Tracks?

If you find it a little harder at your sliding glass door or your door makes noise as it opens and shuts, then it is the sign that indicates you need to perform a bit of maintenance for your sliding glass door. The unclean sliding glass door tracks can accumulate dirt, leaves, mud, sand and other foreign objects over time. Perform some simple cleaning

  • Open the door and vacuum the tracks – to reach into the corners of the tracks, you can use a vacuum and try to lift up any larger pieces of debris or dirt. This process will make the rest of the cleaning easier.
  • Use non-abrasive cleaner – for the cleaning process, you can use a couple of drops of cleaner that is recommended for your sliding door tracks. You can mix a drop of non-abrasive cleaner with 1 cup of water to make it as a solution.
  • Scrub the tracks – Using a wire brush and cleaning solution to scrub the tracks, and if you don’t have a wire brush, you can also toothbrush. Dip the brush into the solution and work your way from one side to the other side of the track. You must concentrate on areas where there is a problem of stuck-on dirt.
  • Wipe down the tracks – by using a rag or paper towels, you can wipe down the tracks after done with scrubbing. After doing with scrubbing, close the door and repeat the process for the other door’s tracks. To keep your door running smoothly, you can perform cleaning once a week.

Use baking soda and vinegar for stubborn dirt

  • Mix cold water and white vinegar – In a spray bottle, you can mix an equal amount of white vinegar and cold water. Once you fill them in the bottle, shake it well. The mixture of vinegar and cold water will act as your cleaning solution.
  • Sprinkle baking soda onto the tracks – Open the sliding door and sprinkle the extra baking soda onto areas with stubborn dirt buildup. Sprinkle the baking soda on all the areas that are covered with dirt.
  • Spray the tracks with the solution – Once you have covered the dirt areas with baking soda, you can spray the prepared vinegar solution on the track and leave the solution for 5-10 minutes to pull up all dirt and grime.
  • Scrub the area – by using a toothbrush or wire brush, you can scrub the area to remove the grime that may have built upon the tracks. Wipe down the area and continue the process on the other side of the sliding door as well.
