What Are Some Innovative Steps Taken by Startups in India to Cope with the COVID-19 Lockdown?

India is going through a tough situation. It's not India alone, the entire world is at war with an invisible enemy. Yes, you are right, I'm talking about the Chinese Coronavirus pandemic that has taken the whole world by storm and put it inside a thorny grip. Thousands are dying on a daily basis with millions are infected. And it doesn't stop here, these numbers are increasing and multiplying day by day.

Seeing the situation, the Government of India has announced a 3-weeks nationwide lockdown which is to last until the 14th of April 2020. Alongside this, the Government has also announced 1.7 Lakh crore relief package and other initiatives to help deal with the financial crisis the nation is facing today. From celebrities, industrialists, businessmen to the common people, everyone has come forward in this crisis by donating in the Prime Minister Relief Fund - PM CARES or their respective state Government's relief fund to battle against COVID-19.

Since everyone is doing their bit to help the nation battle Coronavirus, how can the startups take back seat and watch all the drama? Various Indian startups have stretched their helping hands. Startups are promoting the lockdown among the common people in India so that we can win this war. Alongside this, they have also come forward by donating whatever amount they can.

In addition to that, each of the 55 employees of the company has also pledged to donate Rs. 1000/- each voluntarily in the West Bengal State Emergency Relief Fund.

  • Online food delivery partners Zomato and Swiggy have come forward to help Grofers, an online grocery delivery partner, to deliver orders.
  • A huge number of employees of retail stores are helping startups in backend operations as well.
  • In addition, Grofers is also picking up and delivering groceries to the citizens of the country from retail stores.
  • Swiggy CEO has pledged to give up his 50% salary to support delivery partners.
  • Two startups namely BlinkIn from Bengaluru and DronaMaps from Gurgaon, are closely working with governments and administrative bodies to fight challenges posed by the coronavirus that has so far claimed over 44,000 lives globally.

It's quite apparent that the startups in India are doing a great job in terms of doing their bit for the nation to combat the Chinese Coronavirus and help cope with the lockdown.
