When driving a car or using social media, obscene behavior includes using foul language or crude gestures. Public displays of affection could land you in legal trouble.

Keep a copy of your passport or, if you're a resident, your Omani ID on you at all times for identification, and store the original document safely.

It's possible that you won't be allowed to leave the country if you have a travel ban, are subject to a court order, are fraudulent, have bounced checks, owe money, or are the parent of a child whose custody is in question. You run the risk of being fined or even put in jail if you overstay your welcome or don't renew your legal residency. Overstaying is punishable by a fine of up to OMR 10 per day, up to a maximum of OMR 500.

Before leaving the country, foreign nationals are required to settle any unpaid debts and pay fines for moving violations. If you don't pay fines before you leave the country, you risk delays or being turned away. You can pay fines at the airport.

Illegal and punishable acts include bringing drugs and pornography into Oman.

Drug trafficking, smuggling, and possession—even of small amounts—carry harsh penalties. Sometimes, the death penalty may be imposed. Under Omani law, no distinction is made between "soft" and "hard" drugs; both are dealt with harshly.

Alcohol is sold in hotels and eateries with a license. The Royal Oman Police will issue an alcohol consumption permit to residents of Oman. Being drunk or drinking in public is illegal. The drinking age limit is 21.

It is illegal to operate remote-controlled aircraft or drones without a current pilot's license.

Living together or sharing a hotel room with someone of the opposite sex who is not your spouse or a close relative is illegal.

Homosexuality is illegal in Oman.

Don’t wear inappropriately short clothes

Oman's citizens are conservative and modest. Because they are primarily Muslims and uphold their values and culture, they dress traditionally both inside their homes and in public.

Don’t disrespect mosques

Mosques serve as God's homes. Muslims in Oman to pray use them, read the Quran, study Islam, and worship God. Some of the most stunning mosques in the world can be found in Oman. Non-Muslims are permitted to visit some of these mosques on tours at specific times. Visitors must respect the sacredness of these places and keep their behavior appropriate.

Don’t flirt with women

As a Muslim society, Omani society views women as precious beings and, as such, would never pardon anyone who looks at them or addresses them in any disrespectful way. Visitors are forbidden from making fun of women or making advances toward them.

Don’t disrespect tourist sites

Omani citizens maintain peace and cleanliness in their nation. In every region of Oman, there are streets, gardens, and souks in addition to tourist destinations and well-known locations. Everything must always be left in the same condition that it was found. They should not break any public property or leave trash at an Omani attraction. The Omani Ministry of Tourism typically places signs at various attractions wishing guests a pleasant stay and requesting that they leave the areas in the same condition as when they arrived.
