Living life on a boat can be of extreme thrill and adventure for some while some others may find it a way to be isolated from the blares of city life. That said, even owning a boat can give you a rush through your veins apart from the awe your neighbours would give. In any case, mooring has to be purchased in order to park your boat because usually boat owners don’t carry their boats to their homes. There are not many places that have the area of Moorings UK has with around 3,000 miles of waterways and we are just counting Wales and England alone.

Before you purchase a mooring, it is important for you to know the types of moorings that are available as that may also influence the kind of boat you could buy depending upon the proximity of the mooring from your home. Here is some information regarding mooring types.

Mooring are generally of two kinds:

1.       Residential moorings:
Residential moorings are the types wherein you decide to live aboard your boat for most of the time, that is, you make the boat as your home sweet home. Mooring a Boat may be easy but because a lot of people don’t opt for continuous cruising, there is a lot of rush for obtaining a mooring permit. This means expect a long queue of boaters lining up to get their license for mooring at their nearest mooring facility. Even if you opt for the farthest mooring area of UK, you may get the same scenario. The best way to save oneself from this is to buy a boat that already has mooring charges and thus a mooring area reserved for it.
In some cases, asking price is kept for a moored boat but if you happen to buy this one, you may be able to own the boat but do not own the mooring. This means that mooring expenses may have to be paid to the owner of the mooring.

2.       Freehold moorings:
This kind of mooring is not popular with boat owners because of the high mooring charges freehold and long lease moorings ask for. This kind of mooring is mostly offered by marinas and a better option is to choose for continuous cruising.

A continuous cruising requires you to be cruising continuously with stopping to marinas or moorings for not more than 14 days. This is viable for people looking to live their life in a different and adventurous manner otherwise for a normal boat owner, this may not be suitable as continuously moving your boat to different places may be cumbersome and exhausting at a point.

Every facility has a mooring charge, be it a normal mooring area or a marina. There are also different types of contracts that may range from monthly to annual basis. Note that you may need to cover your boat with insurance as security provision is not mandated at mooring facilities or by the mooring owners.
