DIY, or Do-It-Yourself, is a growing trend both online and in the real world. It eschews buying or doing something that costs a lot of money, instead opting to build it on your own. In this manner, the "DIY-er" gains more knowledge and experience in the process on making their desired product.

While it can be a cost-friendly way of doing things, there is the matter of the quality of the finished product. What looks cheaper isn't necessarily better, and it may actually cost you more money later on than you would expect.

Is the money saved by DIY worth the time and effort put into the work? What if buying it instead was a better investment in the long run?

One can ask the same question with outsourcing and doing it in-house. When the need to design a website arises, is it more practical to spend money and manpower on creating by yourself? Should a business outsource to a company with web design services with experts who have experience on the matter?

To decide which approach works best for a business, entrepreneurs can weigh the respective advantages of DIY web design and outsourcing.

DIY web design has the following advantages:

Cost
In-house Web design can be cheaper if you decide to use free websites such as Wordpress or Tumblr. There are also sites such as Squarespace and Weebly that still require payment but are relatively cheap.

Ease of Use
DIY web design sites were built with beginners to web design in mind. Most of these sites require little to no knowledge in HTML and CSS coding, making it easier for those who are new to web design.

Experience
Doing things on your own as an amateur means encountering many pitfalls. However, DIY is also a way of gaining more knowledge and experience for the future.

Meanwhile, outsourcing showcases these positive points:

Focus
Unlike a business doing web design in-house, an outsourcing firm has no other distractions to slow down their work. They also do not need to allocate their budget on unnecessary resources that may hamper their progress.

Experience
Outsourcers already have the experience needed to get the job done. This lets them decide what is best for the client to make their website easier to use.

Web designing in-house may seem cost-effective at first glance. In the long run, however, it may lead to more problems with time and expenses due to design errors caused by lack of knowledge and experience. Professional web designers already have insight and know how to avoid such issues from ever arising.

Indeed, Do-It-Yourself, web design or not, can serve as a valuable learning experience. But if a business needs an official website and does not have the time to make one, professionals have to step up and do the work that in-house design cannot.

Businesses that sell services or products not related to web design may end up losing more money, time, and manpower on designing their site. It is better off for them to look for an affordable web design company instead. This way, they can save money while not sacrificing quality design and service.
