It is pretty common to see olive oil being used for haircare. There are claims that it tends to increase strength, shine, and softness. However, not enough evidence has been given to back up the idea of including olive oil in your hair care kit.

But olive oil is highly effective in shining up your hair by smoothening the outer hair cuticle. It restores hair’s moisture by strengthening the hair shaft. It is now obvious that olive oil is worth being included in your haircare routine.

How to Use Olive Oil?

1. Measure

You need to experiment if you are using it for the first time. You can start by using 1 or 2 tablespoons. In this case, depth is what matters the most, so the quantity of oil should depend on how deep you want to go while moisturizing.

Using a small amount at first is a great option. For applying on your whole head, fill ¼ of the cup with olive oil. This is perfect for people with long and thick hair.

2. Massage

After you are done with measuring, it is time to do some quick massaging. You need to massage your hair for a couple of minutes. You can also use the oil to massage your dry scalp.

You can reap the most benefits by allowing the oil to soak for 15 minutes or so. For this, you can cover your hair using a shower cap.

3. Wash

Before taking the final step, detangle your hair using a comb with wide teeth, as this will help you immensely in styling your hair after the wash.

It is not easy to get rid of oil, so you might need to shampoo more than once.

What Hair Can Types Use Olive Oil?

Over Processed Hair

If you have processed hair, then olive oil is ideal for you. After using perms or bleach, let at least 72 hours pass before applying the oil. Apply it first on a strand of bleached hair to test for any change of hair colour.

Dry and Thick Hair

Olive oil is known to remove hair dryness by moisturizing it. It maintains the hair’s shine and strength by promoting thickness.

Split Ends

More often than not, you do have to try things on your hair to handle those split ends. Olive oil can put an end to this problem as it smoothens the broken hair ends.

You can either massage the last 2 inches of the damaged strands or if you want to apply it on your entire head, massage the scalp first, then move down towards the ends.

Conclusion

In addition to buying herbal products online, you might now also want to consider getting olive oil for healthy hair. Olive oil has all the chemicals that are required for keeping your hair shiny, strong, and moisturized. Please do not use it more than once per week unless you have extremely dry hair. Make sure that you pin up your hair properly to avoid smearing your clothes.
