The Volkswagen India Private Limited is a division of the Volkswagen India Group. The Polo is an internationally acclaimed car in hatchback and sedan forms. In India the Polo has been launched as a hatchback in 2009 in petrol and diesel variants to take advantage of the preferences of the Indian customers for small cars. The car has been updated in July 2014. The car is gaining in popularity with an increase in year-to-year to movement by 38% calculated in June 2015. The Polo is the bestselling Volkswagen car in India.

The Volkswagen Polo comes in 4 petrol and 4 diesel variants priced Rupees 5.44 to 8.50 lakh. The variants are the Trendline, the Comfortline and the Highline in petrol and diesel and the new variants TSI in petrol and TDI in diesel. The TSI variant has 7 speed automatic transmission.

The Polo, coming in a European style is a bit costlier when compared to its rivals. The base petrol variant is costlier than the Maruti Swift, the Hyundai Elite i20, the Ford Figo and the Hyundai grand i10 priced rupees 4.71, 5.3, 4.14 and 4.66 lakh respectively. Only the Grand i10 is having a petrol automatic variant priced rupees 6.26 lakh and is cheaper than the automatic variant of the Polo.

The base diesel variant of the Polo also is costlier than the base variants of its rivals. The Swift, the Elite i20, the Figo and the Grand i10 are priced Rupees 5.77, 6.42, 5.06 and 5.52 respectively.

The Polo has the most attractive exteriors among the premium hatchbacks in India. The beautifully designed  grille, updated bumper, a chrome strip running across the air dam, double barrel head lights, fog lamps, the 10 spoke steel/alloy wheels and a rear bumper with integrated number plate and reflectors give the car a modern look. The stylish cabin of the Polo has  

2 air bags, an engine immobilizer, tilt and telescopic power steering, an automatic AC, full folding rear seat, ABS, power windows, electric body coloured ORVMs rear parking sensor with camera, leather seats, leather wrapped steering wheel and a 2 Din music system with Bluetooth connectivity.

The petrol variants of the Polo give mileages of 16.4 kmpl (16.47 for auto variant) and the diesel variants 20.14 (19.91 kmpl for the TDI variant) kmpl. The dimensions of the Volkswagen Polo are 3970 mm length 2469 wheel base and 165 mm ground clearance with a boot of 280 litres.

Comfortable and stylish cabins, a large boot and modern looks are the plus points of the Polo. The competition comes from the likes of the Maruti Swift, the Hyundai Elite i20, the Ford Figo and the Hyundai Grand i10.
