Versatile types and features of industrial platform trolleys that you need to know

by Martin Jacob Equip2go

For most people the word trolley comes from supermarkets and various sizes, sometimes the metal type trolley is difficult to manoeuvre. However, there are many other situations, especially in the workplace, where a trolley takes on a completely different form, and is used to transport a wide variety of different loads, shapes and sizes. Essentially, though, a trolley is a wheeled base and platform, basket or carrying surface that is pushed or pulled by a person. A trolley has many applications in a business environment and the design variations and features are far from wide, varied and simple supermarket trolleys.

Types and features

There are many different examples of trolley variations with each type of characteristics that have been determined and included for a particular type of work. The flatbed trolley essentially has a flat platform as a carrying surface. The platform can be wooden for light or soft loads, or metal / steel for carrying heavy / hard carrying loads. Swivel casters work well for light loads for the heavy-duty flatbed version, and iron-wheeled grease nipples are best suited.

Sometimes there can even be a ‘truck’ trolley. For example, platform trucks perform well in many different roles. These can have mesh sides or boarded sides depending on the function. The mesh or boarding can be on 1, 2, 3 or all 4 sides, and it can be removable or grated, and a drop can be inserted in the front.

Despite the name, airport trolleys also work well for example in cash and transportation environments. These are usually made of aluminium and stacked inside each other, thus making them lighter and easier to manoeuvre on their own and convenient and space saving.

The front of the turntable trolley has a steering plate, which is extremely weak even when loaded with luggage. It includes a sturdy but lightweight chassis which makes it a very portable option.

There are models like "Bad Boy" or "Massive Mama" in the true heavy duty world of Trolley. This is designed to hold large loads e.g. 400 kg to 600 kg. As such they have very strong frames and chairs as featured in www.equip2go.com.au. Types of tires have to take into account the weight and surfaces on the board that can be faced, and so it is available with the option of having a puncture-proof foam tire.
