Various Body Languages in Public Speaking and their Importance

by Eva Spenser Innovation

Body language plays a vital role in expressing thoughts and its importance can be widely felt in public speaking or presentations. Body language can be so impactful that a wrong vibe can push away the audience. In the same way the right gesture can help win over their hearts.

Body language can offer unbelievable benefits. Admit it or not body language is considered our body’s own way of interacting without the need for speaking. It involves a combination of gestures, expression and movements conveying a message that your mind wants to speak out. Take for instance if you want to read someone’s body language, look at him carefully. How is his posture? Is he smiling or serious? These are key aspects to look into when understanding body language as it speaks a lot about what the other person wants to communicate. Sometimes gestures and facial expressions can give out wrong impression which affect in rapport building.

Whenever we take photos of people it is understandable that we ask them to smile or as a matter of fact ask them to pose because we want them to flaunt a certain expression or at least make them convey a message. Based on their current body language it will be easier to state whether they look happy or approachable. Experts say that body language is unconscious. It delivers a message unconsciously.

A little deeper into the subject will reveal how body language has the power to tell whether a person is agreeable or non-agreeable to something. Why is it important? Although at times we may try to portray being confident, our body will communicate in a different way. It’s a spontaneous act which happens through facial expressions or gestures.

The impact of body language on public speaking

Public speaking entails an individual to speak on a platform with a big audience in front in course of which our body language can either help convey a message in the rightful manner or can even lead us to a failure. Gestures and expressions are pivotal. For Public Speaking in Perth it is vital to work more on our body language, else a wrong message can entirely affect the presentation so much so that the end results can turn out disappointing.

Apart from focussing on speech, it is body language which needs a brush up. Different factors concerning body language

Body language is determined through different physical aspects and it is important for you to maintain each of them during public speaking or presentation. The various aspects you should be concerned about while maintaining body language includes:

Eye contact

In order to connect to your audience make sure you indulge into eye contact. It doesn’t necessarily mean you will need to establish an eye contact with every individual present, but the crowd as whole should not be overruled when you try to convey a message.

Whether the audience is able to receive your message becomes understandable with substantial eye contact.

Facial expressions

This helps a lot when you want to earn an edge. With positive facial expressions you can win them all. Your audience should be able to identify your emotions through your facial expressions. Stage fright should not come your way, which can later lead the audience to believe that you are not confident with your body language.

Head movements

Spontaneous head movements are a welcome. For example if you tilt it to a side it means you are eager to listen to the audience. However, keeping it down can speak negatively as it will mean you have not yet found the right words to speak. Nodding is a special way of agreeing to the audience.

Similarly, hand gestures and postures can speak a lot when you are presenting an idea before the audience.
