Values in Youth Sports

by Praveen Singh SEO Manager

Good values are greatly incorporated in the arena of sports. We have often heard the term 'sportsman spirit' in our lives. This term is used to define a person's courage and humility. And also how he/she copes with failures and disappointments that come their way and makes renewed and challenging efforts to achieve success next time. The use of the word 'sportsman' here indicates how values are an integral part of sports.

The values that you instill in your children as part of their sports experiences have an immense impact on every aspect of their athletic lives as well as their life in general in the short term and well into the future. If you are in favour of your child's bright future in sports and want him/her to become a good sportsperson, then you must admit your child to a sports club. There are many sports clubs in Gurgaon that can nurture your child in the best way.

However, values are not the first thing that crosses our mind when we hear the word 'sports'. But you should pay more attention to it as it can help your child to make a positive and healthy lifelong relationship with sports and also to lead a successful and happy life. Any sports complex in Gurgaon can be a good choice.

Why Are Values Important?

Values are the moral ideals on which basis a person acts or reacts. The values that you hold, in this case, about sports in particular and life in general, play a vital role in all aspects of your children’s athletic and personal development. Incorporation of good values in a youth's life can shape his/her life in a better way. Any sports club in Gurgaon can help an individual to curate his/her values and also to prioritize his/her goal and take their athletic life in the right direction.

Values will influence how your children think about their sports involvement. For instance, if you encourage your children to participate and give their best effort rather than pressurizing them to win, they will follow this approach in their competitions. If you will only keep repeating the importance of winning, it will just make them tenser.

Being in a sports complex in Gurgaon, your children can have a clear understanding of many things, such as:

  • This is who I am.

  • This is what I value.

  • This is what I stand for.

  • This is what guides my sports.

  • This is how I will behave.

  • This is what I want out of my sports.

Healthy And Unhealthy Sports Values

Considering what is healthy and what is unhealthy sports value is a never ending debate. Some people can agree on some values while others may not. For example, some people might argue convincingly for winning as a healthy value while others may disagree by stating that participation is more important. There can never be a clear separate list for healthy and unhealthy sports values.

Also, we are not here to tell you that a particular value is healthy or unhealthy. It is totally up to you what values you want to instill in your child based on your overall value system and your specific experiences and beliefs about the purpose of youth sports. You can ask yourself- "Will this value help my children become the athletes and, more importantly, the people I want them to become?”

However, there are some common healthy values that all of us can agree upon. Here is a list of those below-

  • Honesty: Being honest and having the true sportsman spirit is the foremost value you need to incorporate in your children.

  • Commitment: Once you start playing, you should be fully committed to your sports.

  • Work ethic: You should have the basic morals and follow the work ethic every single day.

  • Love of sport: Loving what you do can excel your gameplay to another level. So always love whichever sport in which you see your future.

  • Fun: You should not play like you have been forced to, instead, you should have fun while playing. Though you should be dedicated but never let your inner child die because of games and competitions.

  • Respect for self and others: It is one of the major values that every individual should have in them. Learn to not only respect yourself but also others.

  • Being a good sport: As explained above too, always have the sportsman spirit in yourself.

  • Humility: Whenever you win in a competition, remember don't let your ego win too. Always have humility in your actions, it will help you earn more respect.

  • Teamwork: Behind every win, there is a team that has tirelessly worked with you. So always be a team player.

  • Patience: Patience is something that can help you when you fail. Be patient and work harder whenever you fail and bounce back even stronger.

  • Best effort: Whether you win or lose, remember to put your 100% in every gameplay. You will feel content at the end of the day.

There are many such healthy sports values that every person will agree upon. If you want your children to have these values, contact a sports club in Gurgaon and make their future even brighter.
