U.S. States With the Biggest Pickup Populations

For many Yankees, truck ownership is of paramount importance. A truck serves as a status symbol of sorts, you could say. For that very reason, our country’s roads are packed with colorful, creative pickups. In the minds of others, however, a truck is more of a tool than it is a means of stylish transportation. 

Whether you’re in need of any one of America’s many truck rental companies for a new project or hope to purchase one for rightful ownership, pickups abound within our borders. With that in mind, it’s interesting to see how pickup populations differ from state to state. 

It should hardly be surprising that California and Texas have the most pickups in the country, with more than four million pickups on the road in each of these states. After all, these are the two largest states in the country in terms of population. Both states also have vast areas of farm and ranch land, where a pickup would no doubt of vital importance in taking care of important day-to-day tasks.

The other top three states for pickup truck populations—Florida, Georgia and Ohio—also rank in the top 10 for human population in the U.S. While this no doubt plays a factor, the high number of hardworking outdoor and blue-collar jobs in these states also contributes to their higher pickup populations.

Some may be surprised that states like North Dakota, with its recent oil boom, aren’t in the top five for pickup populations. However, it is likely that many industries in these areas turn to rental truck companies to fulfill their transportation needs, rather than rely on employee-owned vehicles.

It’s clear that whether one is using a pickup to take care of chores on the ranch or a mining company is renting an entire fleet from one of the country’s truck rental companies, these vehicles are going to remain a fixture of American life for a long time.
