by Amanda Sutcliffe Travel Deals

Situated on the west coast of India, Goa is one of the country's smallest states and is renowned for its sandy beaches, delicious cuisine, and an excellent mix of Portuguese and Indian cultures. The international airport located in its capital city, Panjim, provides great connectivity with major destinations of the world. As its coastline stretches to more than 100 kilometres, you'll have plenty of beaches to visit during your time spent in this Indian state. Besides beaches, you can also witness some old buildings and structures that were constructed centuries ago.

Among them is the Basilica of Bom Jesus, which is one of the most unique of all the churches found in India. It is worth visiting during your Goa holidays for its Baroque architecture and historical significance. This church is located in Bainguinim, which is about 10 kilometres away from the capital city and was built in the late 16th century. It is believed that Christianity began in India with the construction of this church. This church has the remains of St Francis Xavier, who founded the 'Society of Jesus' with St Ignatius Loyola. Basilica of Bom Jesus has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is a church of great cultural and religious significance.

One of the most popular beaches you'll get to visit while holidaying in Goa is Calangute Beach. It is about 15 kilometres away from Panjim and is the longest beach in North Goa. Owing to its popularity and size, it attracts numerous tourists arriving in Goa from different corners of the world. Many tourists prefer staying close to this beach, as it offers great connectivity to many other beaches of North Goa, such as Aguada, Baga, Candolim, and Anjuna. As it is among the most commercial and bustling beaches of the state, you'll find several options in shacks, eateries, and clubs while taking a stroll on this beach.

You can also go cruising while in Goa to witness the beautiful landscapes of the state or to enjoy a mesmerising sunset. There are different types of cruises available in this part of the world and every single one of them offers some unique experiences for the travellers. You can find backwater cruises, romantic dinner cruises, casino cruises, and also the simple evening cruises. Most of these cruises begin from Miramar Beach, which is located in the capital city of Goa. Upon taking any of these cruises, you'll have a wonderful time on the waters of Arabian Sea with a variety of options in entertainment and food.

While holidaying in this Indian state, you can also indulge in many other exciting activities. As Goa has vast stretches of uninterrupted coastline there are various options available for you when it comes to water sports. Such activities attract plenty of tourists at the Calangute, Candolim, Baga, and Benaulim beaches. Snorkelling, kite-surfing, diving, kayaking, and para-sailing are some of the activities you can try while exploring such places. You can book your favourite activity with any of the licensed operators that offer a range of water sports packages.
