Unwind in Enchanting Places with Cheap Holidays to Antalya

by Amanda Sutcliffe Travel Deals

The largest Turkish city on the coast of the Mediterranean, Antalya is visited by millions of tourists from different parts of the world for its rich natural beauty and its historical structures. It was once just a gateway to the Turkish Riviera. However, it has become one of the most sought-after destinations in Turkey today. Ever since it was first established in 2nd century BC by King Attalus II of the Attalid dynasty, it has seen the rise and fall of some powerful rulers, such as the Romans, the Byzantines, and the Ottomans. It came under Turkish rule after the country's war of independence in the early 20th century.

Your cheap holidays to Antalya would give you the chance to explore some of the popular places in the Turkish coastal city. Among them is an old neighbourhood called 'Kaleici'. It is home to a few fascinating attractions that are mainly from the Ottoman era. The main square in this part of Antalya has a stone-clad clock tower that has maintained its charm even today. Another interesting attraction in Kaleici is Tekeli Mehmet Pasa Mosque, which was built in the 18th century when the country was under the rule of the Ottoman Empire.

If you're interested in exploring Turkish history in detail, the Antalya Museum would be an excellent place to visit. This museum is home to some fantastic exhibits brought from the excavation sites located across the coastal areas of Turkey. All the collections have been displayed in a brilliant manner, which makes the rich history of the country easy to understand. Displays in the large archaeological section range from the Bronze Age to the times of Byzantine rule. Ruins discovered in the nearby areas have also been given a special emphasis.

Another exciting place worth visiting for the history buffs is Aspendos, which comprise ruins of the ancient Greco-Roman city. It is located at a distance of about 40 kilometres east of Antalya. Don't forget to explore a well-preserved Roman theatre while exploring this historic site. This theatre was built during the 2nd and 3rd centuries when the region was at its peak of glory. It can accommodate 15,000 spectators and is the venue for the Aspendos International Opera and Ballet Festival, which is held every year in June and July. This festival has been held regularly since 1994 and attracts the performances of international opera and ballet performers.

During your holiday spent in this gorgeous coastal city of Turkey, you can also visit some of its enchanting beaches. One of them is Lara Beach, which has a vast stretch of powdery sands and excellent facilities for visitors that allow them to unwind and feel the warm rays of the sun on them. You can also find several cafes and restaurants located close to this beach. Umbrellas and sun-loungers can also be rented while you're on this beach. As this is the place with many beach resorts, you'll encounter a significant number of tourists visiting Lara Beach during the peak summer months.
