Visiting India for the first time and not visiting the great Taj Mahal is a crime!! So as to avoid this crime make sure to book Agra tour packages from Delhi with Taj Trips. The Taj Mahal is a majestic monument that holds historical value, has amazing architecture, and symbolizes love. It was built by the Mughal Emperor Shahjahan between 1632 to 1647. He built this astonishing monument in the loving memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal.

However, there are some secrets that you must know about the great Taj Mahal. Let's unravel some for you below.

Symmetry at its Best

The Taj Mahal is a marvelous piece of architecture constructed in the Mughal era. The perfect symmetry, the fashion of the old time, domed mausoleum, surrounded by minarets, and lakes in the center, makes it a perfect balance. The mausoleum complex has a harmonious balance as the ground is divided into four equal quadrants and twinning red sandstone structures, east facing mosque, and a guesthouse at the west. However, there is an exception, the cenotaph of Shah Jahan is positioned oddly west of the center axis. This makes it imperfect when it comes to balancing.

Smartly Placed Optical illusions

The designers and architects of the Taj Mahal were masters of optical illusion and proportion. The Taj Mahal may seem big when you see it at your first approach, especially from the frame of the main gate. However, when you get closer to it, it isn't that big. Even the minarets around the tomb appear perfect but in reality, they are tilted outward. The reason being in case of an earthquake or attack the minarets will fall outside and not on the tombs. Another reason is to create a pleasing visual balance.

Symbol of Love and Power

As per history, the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan was a harsh leader rather than the romantic one. Though the Taj Mahal was constructed for Mumtaz Mahal, the ultimate authority, the zenith of the Mughal rule is visible in its complex symmetry. Further, by its great size and magnificence, Shah Jahan earns a lot of glory.

Change in Colors

You may not believe it but the Taj Mahal marble can change its color with the rising and setting of the sun. During dawn, it looks pearly gray, brilliant white at midday, and orange-bronze at dusk. The marble is specially made to look transparent blue at night. On the night of the full moon and on eclipse there are even special tickets to enjoy the Taj Mahal magnificence.

The False Truth

The biggest myth related to the Taj Mahal was that Shah Jahan cut the limbs and gouged the eyes of the laborer, artists, and craftsmen. However, historians never found any evidence to support this story. But, there are chances that he never wanted anyone to construct a replica of the Taj Mahal anywhere. But nothing can change the fact that it is a romantic tragedy.

Empty Cenotaphs

The cenotaphs dedicated to Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal inside the monument decorated with pietra dura and marble are just for display only. They are empty. However, at the garden level, both of them are resting in a peaceful chamber.

A Retouch That Defines Taj

Due to the toxic air pollutants in the environment, the marble of the Taj Mahal suffered a lot of damage. It turns brown and yellow in color due to the smoke surrounding it. Due to this reason, the cleaning process takes place from now and then. This continuous cleaning brings back the perfection of the Taj. The secret is that only an ancient paste is used to restore its luster.

Make sure that while visiting India, you book your Delhi to Taj Mahal tour packages with Taj Trips to unravel other secrets of the Taj Mahal.
