UI/UX Best Practices: What the Experts Say

by Nitin Kumar Digital Marketing Company

How your customers and users interact with and relate to you is overwhelmingly dependent on your following UI/UX best practices. The ease with which interface users are able to get the information that they want, get good deals on the products that they’re looking for, or access services that are relevant and timely, are key to ensure return visits, brand loyalty, and customer delight.

Experts in various niches have different takes on how to best to achieve this kind of user experience. This article will briefly discuss some of the most crucial aspects of interface and experience design that have remained at the heart of some of the most successful applications that ordinary people everywhere use everyday.

Use Intent Behind your Design

Aesthetics for art’s sake doesn’t work in business. There has to be a purpose behind interface design - whether it’s formatting, the layout, color, white space, or animation. If you’re designing an eCommerce product page for example, you need to ensure that the user doesn’t have to search for the ‘Buy Now’ button. You must ensure that interactive elements in an app screen are clearly visible and change their features once you’ve tapped on them.

Balance Aesthetics with Functionality

Art, as you know, can be a very subjective domain. Intention is the UI and UX practitioner’s weapon to fight against this subjective tendency of human beings. It’s imperative to identify and define goals at the outset and not rely on creative instincts overly. Remember, that the goal of your design process is to solve a problem, convey information, or validate an input. Most users aren’t coming to you because of the intricate sketches you put up unless visual gratification is part of the goal. Simplicity, efficiency, and convenience are the most principles that should guide your design.

Learn When to Make Exceptions

What was discussed above is in marked contrast to gaming screens where the thoughtfulness of the environment is key to users falling in love with the game. Gaming developers will tell you that more than half of what they wanted to include in the final version didn’t make it through device constraints, memory restrictions, decisions about the game being easy enough for every level of user, and so on. Is designing UI for a gaming application really unpredictable?

Fortunately, UX principles can lead you to a far more informed answer for this situation. “If you want to discover what certain classes of users will like or not like, you have to go back to UX research. UX research is research about the user, identification of his/her preferences, income levels, probable intelligence levels based on profession, age-group, geographical location, previous online behavior, etc. This information can be correlated to a comprehensible psychological profile. This will, then help you understand more accurately, the types of screen and situation designs that this user will like,” says Harsha Kakkeri, Founder and CEO of Designboat UI/UX School, one of the most popular and industry-recognized UX Design training courses in the country.

Some gaming companies have found beta version trials among live audiences a good way of gauging market enthusiasm for their product. Netflix uses data from its users to determine what kind of programs you are most likely to watch.

Other application developers have seen it fit to set expectations on the first screen about what your product can and can’t do. But then they take accomplishing what was promised very seriously.
