Tyre Health Check Guide - How to Keep Your Tyres in Check

by Central Tyres Automotive & Tyres Suppliers

Regular check and maintenance of your car tyres can save up a lot of your time, money, and unexpected troubles. Keep your tyres in check to avoid problems in taking brakes, handling turns, or excessive vibrations in your car.

It might look like a burden, but once you add a few tips of tyre checking in your daily habits, it won't cause a lot of hassle. Some of these pointers mentioned below will help you maintain the health of your michelin tyres Walsall

Keep checking your tyre pressure

Check the tyre pressure every two weeks for proper inflation and if it exceeds the level recommended for the driver. The recommended pressure for your vehicle is mentioned on the sidewall or owner’s manual.

Steps to check the pressure of your tyre:

  • Ask for a pressure gauge from any local garage or buy one yourself.
  • Don't forget to check it in the morning itself when your tyres are not heated up.
  • Try to unscrew the valve on your tyre and place the gauge over it.
  • Read the pressure and try to compare it with the pressure displayed on the sidewall.
  • You can either fill the tyres at a local garage or use a home compressor.
  • Now recheck the pressure.
  • Replace the unscrewed valve caps on the tyre.

Ensure your tyres wear evenly

It is crucial to have your tyres rotated every 10,000 to 12,000kms to ensure that your car tyres wear evenly. Even if it is cheap tyres Walsall, rotating the tyres will give uniform wear across the set. The tyres at the front usually get worn out before the rear ones, and when you rotate the tyres, they wear more evenly and can reach their maximum tread life.

You can do the tyre rotation yourself:

  • Before going for the tyre rotation, check your vehicle owner’s manual for any particular recommendations.
  • If each tyre is of the same size, rotate them front to back.
  • Look for the arrows molded on the sidewalls: these are the directional tread patterns, and you need to follow them to turn your vehicles in the right manner.

Look into the condition of your tyre tread

The tread portrays the condition of your vehicle health, and regular checking of the tyres will help diagnose problems at an early stage. The signs you should look out for:

  • What does your tyre depth gauge indicate? Check if your tyre meets the minimum of 2-3mm tread depth.
  • Check if any small object is stuck in the tread. If you spot something like a nail on your tyre, head to the garage immediately.
  • Check if the tyres are worn on both the edges as they might need inflation or leak repair.
  • If you can see excessive wear in the centre of the tread, it might be due to over-inflation in tyres. This can lead to the risk of a blowout or more serious damage to your vehicle.

Regular inspection and maintenance

Regular maintenance prolongs the lifespan of tyres, and it also depends on the driving habits, climate, and road surfaces your drive on. Check for these issues and replace your tyre as soon as possible:

  • Even with the best maintenance and care, your treads will wear out one day, and you will have to replace them. Check for the uneven wear patterns on your tread that can indicate some other issues.
  • Always check the sidewalls and the tread for damage and a weak sidewall can cause your tyre to fail. Look for the bubbles, blisters, cuts, and cracks on the tread.

If you plan to buy replacement tyres, replace all of them at once. However, if you want to replace a single tyre, make sure it matches the other worn tyres.
