Types of Equipment Used During Coal Mining
by Shifali Sharma Shifali SharmaThe mining industry is considered one of the most dangerous
places for humans to work. In this type of industry, all employees require
proper and regular training that will help them to understand all the machines
and equipment that play a crucial role in various operations. They are designed
to perform the tasks more efficiently and reduce human effort.
The types of mining equipment that are to be used at the
site depend on the task that will be carried out: above or below ground or
mining for gold, metals, coal or crude oil. Some common machines used are
drilling machines, excavators, crushing and grinding equipment. If you are
someone who is new to this job and need to know about the various machines used
by renowned companies such as KCT
Group , here are a few:
Excavators
These are machines used for
digging and removing soil, sand, etc. In many cases such as a critical
working condition, this machine requires component optimization that is
specifically based on static linear, nonlinear and dynamic analysis.
Draglines
Draglines are enormous machines that
are used to move the debris away from the upper surface and expose underlying
coal or mineral deposits. This type of machine is one of the largest machines
on the planet. In many cases, they are built at a particular location and later
dismantled and traveled to another location. These are capable of removing
hundreds of tons of material in a single pass.
Drills
It is important to dig holes during
mining. Miners use drills to create these series of holes and fill them with
explosive charges. These explosives blast away chunks of earth.
Roof Bolters
As the name suggests, roof bolters are
large machines that are hydraulically powered and used to force bolts into
roofs. They are used by miners to ensure that the tunnel roof stays up and does
not collapse while people are working inside.
Continuous Miners
Continuous miners were introduced to
fast track mining activities. These machines have rotating arrays of teeth made
from tungsten carbide. They make it really easy to scrape coal from coal beds.
Robotic continuous miners are available as well which are used in dangerous
conditions.
Long Wall Miners
Contrary to continuous miners, long wall
miners focus on removing huge rectangular chunks of coal instead of slowly
scraping coal from a bed bit-by-bit.
