Chances are you’ve heard the saying “safety first.” These two words are seen as a priority for countless companies and corporations around the globe. It is extremely important for businesses, such as construction companies, to keep this in mind. Working in a business that requires the use and transportation of construction supplies using a monthly rental vehicle can be a big responsibility.

One of the biggest risks of driving a vehicle for a construction company is losing or damaging materials. This is why securing loads inside the bed of a truck is of the utmost importance when driving a rental truck for a construction project. If loads are not completely secure in a vehicle then the driver, vehicle and everyone else on the road is at risk as well. Most monthly rental services encourage the safety and security of the driver and know the importance of safely securing loads.

Depending on what materials are being loaded, there are several specific tips for safely securing these materials. As a general rule of loading materials, lighter materials should go lower in the bed of the truck. By doing this, heavier items can help hold down lighter items. For safety reasons, a load should never be higher than the top edge of a truck bed and tall items should be laid flat.

When transporting equipment that has wheels, such as a lawnmower, it is imperative to block the wheels. Doing so prevents machines from rolling. Wrapping straps around and through the wheels can do this even more securely.

Covering materials and equipment with a waterproof tarp can be very important for unexpected weather conditions. Some construction supplies, such as cardboard and wallboard, can disintegrate when exposed to water if they are not covered. It is suggested that an individual driving a vehicle from a monthly fleet rental service straps down all tools, such as shovels and rakes, and covers them with a tarp.

Lastly, in making sure the monthly rental vehicle is secure, some suggest asking the following question, “If I were driving behind this car, would I feel safe?” The driver should feel confident that he or she would feel safe driving behind their vehicle because their load is completely secure. This means being completely confident that the equipment being transported will not slide around or leave the vehicle.

Safety and security are important to everyone on the road. It is important that all drivers do their part in making sure the road is a safe place to be.
