Definitely a must do when in Shanghai - both by day and by night. Walking along and seeing the modern Pudong skyline on one side, and the historic buildings on the other is a great experience. I was expecting it to be ridiculously packed Yangtze River cruises with people, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much personal space I had. It was also very clean, with street sweepers constantly picking up any rubbish. I particularly liked the atmosphere at night, when there were bigger crowds, but there was a general pleasant feel. Lots of people taking photos, and lots of wedding parties! One of the world's great promenades.
