Travel Safety Tips and Suggestions during Pregnancy

by Kevin Smith Author

For most women, being pregnant is an exciting time of life. You may not be able to completely contain your excitement about this new bundle of joy that will be arriving in your life soon. From scheduling your Dr. John White ultrasound in Daytona Beach to buying furniture for your pending arrival’s nursery, there are a lot of things to plan for. But for now, you may have other adventures that you’re also looking forward to. For instance, if you have any travel plans, there are some extra considerations you need to make when you’re pregnant and travelling. Here are some of the ways that you can make your vacations much healthier and more comfortable for you and the growing baby inside.

Go at the Right Time

For most pregnancies, if you experience nausea, it’s likely to last only through the first trimester, and the third trimester is likely to be the most uncomfortable. For these reasons, the second trimester might be the sweet spot when it comes to planning any vacations. You’ve gotten over the morning sickness but aren’t so uncomfortable yet that you won’t be able to do most things you normally would do.

Choose Domestic Travel

The thought of running away to a far-off destination can be intriguing for many pregnant women. It may be your one last hurrah before jetting off to tropical paradise on the other side of the world for a while. However, travelling within the country may keep you more comfortable and you’ll be safer from potentially contaminated food or drinking water. If there are complications with your pregnancy, you’ll feel better being closer to home.

Get Your Prenatal Medical Records

No matter how far into your pregnancy you are when you travel, bring a copy of your prenatal medical records. If you have to see a doctor while you’re on vacation for any reason, they will want full notes and records of any preexisting conditions and how your pregnancy has progressed so far.

There are many days during pregnancy that you look forward to: for example, your first Dr. John White ultrasound in Daytona Beach, finding out the baby’s gender, and even getting to do some travel and going on vacations are all major happy moments to get excited about. If you are travelling during your pregnancy, make sure you keep these key considerations in mind for a happier and healthier experience for you and your baby.
