Tragic Fan Deaths in the Sports World
People in Salt Lake City and around the world love to go to sporting events. Going to sports games is a great way to bond and create fun memories with family and friends. However, even though sports are technically just “games,” people tend to get way too intense when it comes to winning, rivalry and any other form of competition.
The fact that alcohol is served at many of these events does not help much, either. Combined with the fact that many stadiums in Salt Lake City and other parts of the country have unsafe seating where there are no guard rails or slanted steps, this is just asking for trouble—which could get a wrongful death lawyer involved.
As strange as it may sound, there have actually been several fan deaths due to carelessness or rambunctious behavior. From Salt Lake City to the East Coast, some people just go too far with their passion and as a result, families have to see a wrongful death lawyer.
One of the most well-known as well as shocking fan deaths involved a man by the name of Shannon Stone. Shannon was a Texas Rangers fan and fell 20 feet headfirst onto the concrete when he was trying to catch a baseball that was thrown to him by Josh Hamilton. Shannon was with his 6 year-old son when he fell and died in the hospital soon after.
As fun as sports events can be, it is important to remember that safety should always come first; regardless of which All-Star might be tossing you a ball to catch. In the end, it is not worth it to have to visit a wrongful death lawyer.
Another example of sports passion gone bad was in 2001 during a soccer game in Ghana, Africa. The Accra Hearts of Oak were playing against the Kumasi Asante Kotoko and after a close-scoring and heated game, fans started throwing bottles and chairs onto the soccer field. This eventually led to complete chaos and police had to fire tear gas into the crowd. This resulted in 50 soccer fans getting trampled to death as large crowds stampeded in an attempt to rush out of the stadium.
Sadly, stories like this appear in Salt Lake City and around the world more often than not. Even though these situations are truly tragic, visiting a wrongful death lawyer can help families of the deceased receive the compensation they deserve.
