Tracking the Success of the Maruti Suzuki Swift
by Maruti Suzuki Best Cars in IndiaThe Maruti Suzuki Swift is one of the most popular petrol cars in India and is counted among
the few cars that have left their mark on the Indian automotive industry.
The Swift has made its place in the market as the perfect sporty hatchback that attracts both young and mature audiences. It offers a host of features, best-in class comfort, and a powerful performance, all at a value-for-money pricing.
Early Days
Launched in 2005, the Maruti Suzuki Swift became an instant hit on the Indian roads, with its sporty design, great build, and new features and expressed itself as a fun to drive car at an attractive price point. The car’s success has followed it even after 15 years since the first-generation Swift was launched and it remains as one of the most bought petrol cars in India, with more than 22 lakh units sold.
The first gen Swift featured a futuristic design language with a practical cabin, both of which were highly admired by consumers. It was ahead of the competition on multiple fronts and took the world by storm with its perfect blend of high-in-demand features, latest technologies, and distinct design with a capable, robust machine that was missing from the market. The Swift Price was the ultimate deal maker and has been, to this day, its biggest advantage.
Making Progress
The first-generation Swift was offered with a 1.3 L
capacity G13BB petrol engine producing 87 Ps of power and 115 Nm of torque.
However, what proved to be the more successful motor was the 1.3 L DDiS diesel
engine, which produced 75 Ps and 190 Nm of max torque, introduced late in 2007.
The Swift didn’t get automatic transmission until 2015, before which all the
engines were mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
With the latest BS6 norms kicking in, Maruti Suzuki decided to leave out the diesel engine from its latest 2020 facelift Swift line-up, focusing solely on the K series petrol engine. The motor currently on sale is a 1.2 L K-series BS-6 compliant petrol engine, with a peak power output of 83 BHP and maximum torque of 113 Nm, that provides an unmatched driving experience and high fuel economy for both manual and automatic variants.
Present Day
That latest generation of the Swift received a Limited-Edition
makeover not too long ago, focused on added thrill and dominance. The Swift
Limited-Edition continues to amaze its fans with new and innovative changes. It
gets an all-new accessories kit that gives the car a new design language with
blacked out elements. The kit features an aerodynamic spoiler, front and rear
body kits, side body kit and an all-black grille garnish in bold black colour.
This edition of the Swift has been targeted particularly at the tech savvy, youthful audience that demands a higher level of fun and adventure filled into their drive. Mechanically, the car remains unchanged from the current generation with a 1.2 L VVT petrol engine still on offer and only gets aesthetic changes. The driver-focused cabin has also not been changed, with steering-mounted controls and the Smart Play Studio for uninterrupted entertainment on offer.
With the price of the Swift starting at just Rs. 5.19 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), it promises
an exhilarating drive, comfortable spacious interiors and exciting sharp
exteriors to all its customers.
